Anyone have a dad for a nurse?

Nurses Men

Published

I'm a male student nurse, sophomore currently, BOTH my parents are nurses, dad is in ER, and mom is in ICU/CCU. The wierd thing is I didnt choose nursing to "follow my mom/dad's footsteps", its much deeper than that, but we all work at the same county hospital, I'm a nurse's aide right now to get me to/from school with gas money, ect.

So, are there any male RN's or RN's to be out there that have an RN for a dad?

PS- we need a smiley like this: :nurse: , but the male version.

There is a father & son in our local emerg, both RNs, and a classmate's of mine (class of '88) father was an RPN in a high security criminal ward of a psych facility and he said that his dad's nursing background led him to become an RN.

Nobody in my family or my wife's (we're both RN's) had any nursing background.

What do you suggest? A red crossed bronzed breast plate rather than a nurse's cap?

BTW, My mom's a nurse, however my dad sings professionally.

One of my daughter's friends in high school had a father who was an LVN. He worked in the state prison system (big bucks with overtime) and stated that most of the employees had to be a little off in the head to be able to work there. He discouraged his daughter from going into nursing, but she became an RN anyway and married a man in her nursing school class. Now they are two happily married RNs, own their own home, work at the same hospital, and have started on the next generation of nurses in that family.

I am a dad that is a nurse and I have two daughters that are nurses now too. One in telemetry and one in the OR.

Congratulations exstol for contributing to the decrease in the nursing shortage!

D'oh! I should have mentioned as well: our daughter will be entering the degree program next fall.

Truth be told, both mom & me made a serious attempt to discourage her (sorry bro's - only because of the changes we see locally/provincially where we are) or at least fully prepare her for some realities, but she's had her heart set on it for years.

rock on, i was beginning to think i had a weird family, having so many RN's in it. nice to know theres other nursing families out there!

Specializes in ICU (1 year).

My dad became an ER nurse about ten years ago. When I was a junior in highschool I did 3 12hr shifts with him in the ER...and I was hooked! I have now been a nurse for 1.5 years with most of it being in the ICU and now I am a nurse manager in a State facility. My younger brother is a junior in college and he is finishing his first semester of nursing school.

My father started a male nurse legacy LOL. We all agreed that we should go on Oprah or something and tell the tale of the 3 men who became nurses.
