About Caribbean_cruzin

Caribbean_cruzin has 13 years experience.

I was a "late bloomer", waiting until my children were in junior high and high school before I started school. I graduated when I was 41. I've been an RN for 13 yrs now. I started off on a med-surg unit and was injured early on causing me to have surgery, an AFS C5-7. I spent some time working in a clinic as a coordinator, then for a company that processed Medicare claims. For the last 5 years, I have been working in the Quality Management Dept at a hospital primarily doing abstraction and chart review for Core Measures. I am married to a wonderful man, have 2 biological grown children, 3 stepchildren and 2 grandchildren.

  4. Can New Grad Nurses Work a PRN position?

The term would be per diem. I would not recommend a new grad working as a per diem nurse and I am surprised that a hospital would hire one. You need that orientation period to get your feet under you as the new grad, working only when needed doesn't ...

  7. Med-Surg first or OR?

  10. Would you ever ask another nurse to give your pt a suppository?

If it was simply the matter of the convenience of the patient so as not to cause more discomfort then perhaps the patient's nurse should have been the one on the "backside" of things. Not to mention if it's a skin assessment in addition to giving the...
  11. Is there really no way to refuse a mandatory flu shot?

We can't force patients to get vaccinated. It is required charting as well as a Core measure for CMS to offer and document either their refusal, previous vaccination status or an allergy excluding them. As RN's, we also have a right to refuse the vac...

  14. Sacramento RN wages??

I wouldn't be so quick to give up on California or Sacramento. Not all Sacramento area hospitals require a BSN, mine does not unless you are wanting to work in a high risk area, then you may find it's preferred. Our hospitals are members of the CNA u...
