About plumbtrician

plumbtrician has 1 years experience.

I am seeking a career change from the construction industry (12 years). I thought that I wanted to be a firefighter, but changed my mind after I finished medic school and couldn't get a job as a medic in the SF area. I enjoy the hospital environment very much and I will make a great coworker to you peeps.

  1. Let's call it "organ support," not life support

Call it what you want, but this case is going to be examined to death (excuse the pun) by the ethicists.
  2. Need advice about where to turn.

Apply to my school. Being male has been nothing but a benefit!
  3. Stereotyping Male Nurses

I don't know very many gay nurses or student nurses. Most men in the field are straight. The gay guys in my program will make fine nurses though.
  4. Pierced ears; need advice

Do whatever makes you feel good! The rules at my school state that men shall not have pierced ears, but guys wear earrings without punishment. I am probably going to throw a stud or two in soon. Good luck and be happy.
  5. Nursing students and immaturity

Exactly! Be direct, be firm and if that doesn't solve the problem utilize the chain of command. The "nail them for sexual harassment" type of thinking is pretty reactionary and infantile. If you deal with perceived adversity with maturity and profess...
  6. Please listen!!!

The best training before nursing school had to be the route that I took. I worked in construction for 14 years as a plumber and electrician. It's almost the same job as nursing. I was a medic too.
  7. Unrealistic expectations of nurses.

I feel for you, but the solution is simple. Organize with a quality union or resign yourself to a career of what you are experiencing right now.
  8. Sorry state of Nursing ...

I am graduating in 8 months. I plan on getting involved in the Union at my first opportunity. What are you going to do to improve working conditions for nurses?
  9. Stooopid

Like X 1,000,000 I can hold my breath like a........... and then trying to explain why I am panting and sucking air so hard to a coworker. Healthcare rocks!
  10. Backpack, watch for nursing program?

I despise rolling backpacks as much as umbrellas. Rollies help you gain thirty pounds of fat by forcing you to take the elevator. As for the umbrellas, off topic. I use a regular backpack and carry the heavy book in my hands. You can do it by studyi...
  11. Disgusted with nursing career

I'm 38, halfway through nursing school, was a paramedic for a year, my two cents: Nursing isn't for everyone, that is part of which makes this such an awesome career. Patient care is a privilege. Figure out how to change your attitude and situation...

  14. New Grads!!! There IS a way to SURVIVE!!

Sorry, I guess I just know too many new grads who whine about not being able to get a job out of school. That is where I was coming from. Sorry for getting off of topic. I am a BIG proponent of volunteering! BUT...in the right setting and circumstanc...
  15. New Grads!!! There IS a way to SURVIVE!!

New grads living in part of the USA where jobs are difficult to acquire? Life isn't easy, sacrifices must be made. I was living in California and moved to Texas to go to nursing school to avoid the trap that y'all are in right now. What I have found ...
