Should I take Phlebotomy? I'm on the waiting list at my school, and for the time being, I figure I would take some helpful but not required classes. Phlebotomy is one of them. Would you reccommend?

Greetings!

As long as there are no other required courses that you could be taking while awaiting admission, phlebotomy would be an excellent choice. Be certain that completion of the program will qualify you to be eligible for the ASCP certification exam. Good phlebotomists are hard to find and there is always a market for part-timers in hospitals, clinics, blood donation stations, etc. You may find that you 'd like this aspect of healthcare better.

Good luck!

If this class does not interfere with your schedule, go for it. I was certified in Phlebotomy during nursing school and it has made a huge difference, because where I work the ICU nurses have to do all their own phlebotomy. The pay for phleb's is a lot better than for nurse aides as well. Enjoy!!! smile.gif

Go for it! Anything you can learn that you will use in your career (now or later) is worthwhile, and can earn you some extra bucks, too.
