  1. where???

It depends on whether or not you would enjoy working with other people, or mostly like to work by yourself. If you don't mind taking care of a large group of patients, you should look in hospital, or LTC nursing. If you want to work alone, without ha...
  2. Hipaa Violation Advice

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe this would only be an internal issue and shouldn't reflect on her nursing license. I hope everything turns out OK for her....
  3. I am pathetic.

My hospital ER has this as well. I participated in it for the first time this year, and plan on doing it again. The "Teddy bear clinic" is a wonderful concept and great way to teach the children about the ER in a non-threatening environment. :)
  4. These docs are gonna fight!

Actually, I believe the PCP is wrong about this. IF the patient is oriented, and proved to be fully competent to make his own decisions, he IS allowed to sign himself out AMA.....
  5. Is this reasonable or am I being a newbie?

If they are true CNA's, they "should" be properly trained in taking VS. I haven't worked in a facility that didn't have the CNA's doing the VS while I did meds., treatments, Accu checks, ect... I was under the impression that the "C" in CNA, stood fo...
  6. LPN School: How Many Hours Did You Study Per Day?

I studied for 2 hours each day. I had a part time job, and found that anything more than 2 hours above the time that I spent in school, just wasn't manageable.
  7. I am pathetic.

You are absolutely NOT pathetic. I really enjoyed reading this cute story of yours. Thank you for the post. :)
  8. How do you waste meds? Environmental concerns.

This is a very interesting concept. I could be wrong about this, however, at this time, I don't believe the hospital that I work for has such a thing set up. Do you have a link, or a name of this product, so I can talk to my manager about it? Thank y...
  9. Orientation priorities

I am an LPN working in my hospitals ER, and one of the things that should also be on your agenda for teaching, is "TEAM WORK"! Let them know that everyone in the department works together as a team, no matter which patient that they are assigned to t...
  10. Do you start your own IVs?

Although my hospital does have an IV team, ER nurses are not allowed to call them unless we have tried getting the line in ourselves first.
  11. LPN for 6 yrs just grad from RN program

First of all, congrats on getting your RN, this will open up more opportunities in the nursing field for you. You should find out if the hospital that you worked for has a home health dept. that you could work for. Maybe getting out of the hospital w...
  12. New job: Problem with orientation-VENT

I agree with those on here who said that you should sit down and have a talk with the DON. Before you go into the DON's office, you should make a list of all the things that you feel are important for you to learn during your orientation period. This...
  13. bonus's

Same here!! I would like to see an improvement in moral in the nursing department in general. More staff would definitely be a step in the right direction. If management would place a strong emphasis on "team work" when hiring new staff, more nurses...
  14. Career change/why so neg on nursing?

I don't think the nursing field is any more negative than some of the other "customer service" based jobs that are out there today. For the most part, I find that on any of the forums like this one, a person is more likely to post a bad experience th...
  15. Fatigue Detectives

Is this a sleep away from home camp? If so, perhaps you might want to look at his sleeping patterns at night as well. Sometimes it really is hard for someone to get the proper amount of sleep that their body needs while they are away from home. I wen...
