Specialties Med-Surg

Hi everyone. I just got a new grad residency position on a medical floor. I'm really excited. I start in a few weeks. My med-surg clinical was over a year ago. I was wondering if you all have advice on how to prepare and things to review. I've read some of the other new-grad posts, but figured I'd start my own. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Specializes in Certified Med/Surg tele, and other stuff.

Ask to your new co-workers what the most common things you see. Review meds and get yourself a good brain sheet to help keep you organized. It will be a priceless piece of paper. :)

Thanks tokmom. I've seen some good brain sheets on here. I am meeting with a nurse from the floor who I know before I start so I know what to expect. Any other new grad tips for building rapport with coworkers, being organized, and getting the hang of things?

Go over diagnostic lab values.... Know what is the normal range.... Most hospitals have back up safety calls from lab regarding critical results but u should just glance over it...

Really enjoy the time you have off by celebrating and when you start, look up info after leaving work & during work... Your preceptor should guide you in the right direction...
