CMSRN - any effect?

Specialties Med-Surg

Our hospital is offering classes for the CMSRN exam but I have heard that everyone that takes the exam passes, it is not a value tool for improving or evaluating Med-Surg knowledge and it has not effect on salary, staff positions or floating.

Can anyone with first hand knowledge share your insights, please?

I would take it if I were you.

I have my cert through ANCC (before there ever was a CMSRN exam). My cert has never gotten me more money but it has gotten me positions that I would not have gotten otherwise. It's value is what you make of it.

I took the CMSRN last year and I know that there are people who do not pass the exam. I think any type of certification improves your marketability. I am wondering if the ANCC and the CMSRN are comparable.

I received my CMSRN a few months ago - Plus a small amount of money more per hour for having the certification! It looks great on your resume plus looks neat on my badge:lol2:! Seriously though, it gives me the peace of mind knowing I could pass it and gives me more confidence!

When I worked acute care, the CMSRN earned me an extra 3% per hour and it looked terrific on my ID badge. It doesn't do much for me now that I'm an assisted living nurse/manager, but I'm still proud of having done it.
