Anyone attend Umass Boston's MSN program (in any of the nurse practitioner or CNS programs)?

I would like to hear your suggestions, recommendations, and experiences with this school and program.

Hi Jenn, I finished my first year at UMass Boston. I'm in the CNS acute/critical care track, but the first year the NP and CNS are basically all together in the 3P's. I'm very happy with the program, and it's much cheaper than Amherst or Worcester. I'm impressed with the achievements of the faculty. Some are better teachers than others, but that goes around everywhere. If you want to contact me offline, I'm happy to chat. sparklecookie(at)gmail(dot)com and I will give you my phone ##. Good luck!

Hi Muffin741,

I sent you an email. I hope to hear from you soon.

How do you like the courses and clinicals so far?

Thanks!

Hi Jenn42H,

I never got your email. I double checked my email account and it works. I sifted through my spam (ewww), and you weren't there either. Can you resend? Would love to hear from you. I'm taking only one course this summer and it's not terribly time consuming, which has been GREAT. I've finished the first year, and start clinicals in September. I'll know more about the Capstone requirements then and can give you some details. Let me know where you are in the process. Are you applying, thinking about it or trying to decide among schools? If you want to talk about the NP programs I have wonderful friends doing those and can connect you with them once we make contact. M741

Hi Muffin741,

I emailed you again. Perhaps I misspelled your email address the first time. I hope you get my email.

Thanks!

I applied to the bachelors program but didn't get in unfortunately (have no credits at Umass)! I'm starting as MBCC in the fall and after I'm done, I wanted to get my bachelors online and then do my masters all at UMass.

How competitive are both online RN to BSN and the masters program?

Thanks guys!

Hi Fay, Not sure about the RN to BSN program...the Masters program is not that competitive. I think there were 80 applications for 60 spots when I applied. UMass is a very good deal financially-good luck this fall! Muffin741

Hello, wondering how you felt about the program at UMass Boston. Please share your experience. I am going to be starting in the MS program this Fall 2013 in the Adult/Gero NP program. I'm nervous about it for sure.

Hi lindeezi,

I'm interested in applying to the FNP track for September 2014 and wondering how it's going for you there. Please share your thoughts, advice, etc. Best of luck with the program. I will be attending the open house next week. It seems like UMB's program would be the best financially speaking for me.

Hi Cindy-20,

I am just noticing this post! I hope your application process is going well. So I am now in my 2nd semester as a part time student. It's been challenging working full time and going to school. It is nice that the courses are in the evening starting. I had a course at 4pm last semester and one at 7pm this semester. My other classes so far have been online, so it is nice to not have to physically go to class for all of the courses. I find the online courses just as challenging as the in-class courses. I have had good experiences with some professors, but have also had 2 professors so far where it was their first time teaching the course and that has been a bit frustrating. All in all, things have been going well. Just be prepared to commit a good chunk of time to your course work. There is lots of reading, discussion posts, papers, presentations, and group projects. The professors, in general, have great experience and most are practicing NPs or in nursing research. Definitely a good choice financially for the good level of education offered there!
