Orthopaedic clinical nurse specialist in MA

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Anyone working in Massachusetts as an Orthopaedic Clinical Nurse Specialist?

Specializes in Sub-Acute/Psychiatric/Detox.

I'm not familiar with Ortho CNS. As far as I know the only CNSs who can prescribe RXs in MA are Psychiatric CNS. The role of the CNS in MA is strictly educational/back-up for special situations.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

You might want to repost this in the CNS or APN forum. You might be asking a too specific question for the state forum.

I'm an adult health CNS who works nephrology in IL but we are APNs with full prescriptive authority.

Thank you for the posts. I saw a job posting (not in Ma) for

a Total Joint Replacement Program Coordinator . It was a while back,

but I thought they mentioned CNS as opposed to NP.

As there are many Boston teaching hospitals with an Ortho program (MD)

thought I would ask here...

Also, I have posted this question in Specialty section, however have

received no reply.

Gotcha - hmmm - sounds more like the true CNS role - not an advance practice nurse role.

My guess (and only a guess) is that the program coordinator would coordinate preop labs, maybe do the H&P, order cardiac or other specialty clearance, make sure the pt has the ability to care for themselves after surgery, can use a walker, crutches, wheelchair prior to surgery, arrange post op visits, PT/OT if needed - that kind of thing.

Thanks, that is it and it also include TJR classes for patients before surgery and after.

Personally I am more interested in the teaching/clinical aspect. I believe

the Ortho practice had PAs and NPs as well...
