New to MA with some questions

hello my fellow nurses,

i recently move to ma from central florida, in fl i attended in community college where i was taking the necessary pre requisite to enter the rn program. so far i have a&p 2 and micro to take in order to apply for the rn program in fl. my dilemma at this point is that i'm no longer in fl therefore i have to find a local school in ma in order to continue with school. my question to you fellow ma resident is what are some community college or states college in ma that i may continue my schooling bridge from lpn to rn, and will i additional pre requisite then what i already have in fl? i do intend to do more research for school in the area but i wanted to get some information from members in here as well. right now i'm in shrewsbury ma but we may move to the north boston amesbury or surrounding areas. what school is harder to get in to and is excelsior a good choice? i already switch my lpn license from fl to ma it was an easy process and cost me $285 also in ma does your license expire on your bday mine will expire in 4 mths

All nursing programs in MA are competitive. You need to maintain a stellar GPA in your pre-req's and even then you may be on a waitlist. But don't give up; people are accepted into these programs every day. Local community colleges include Quinsigamond CC in Worcester. I don't know if they have a nursing program. I went to Bunker Hill Community College in Boston. There is also Mass Bay Community College, Middlesex Community College (Lowell) and many others. Have you considered entering into a BSN program instead? It's hard to get a job as a new grad in Mass, and as an BSN you are usually preferred over ASNs. My final word of advice would be to get a job in a hospital as soon as possible. Keep the job throughout nursing school. Then, as an internal applicant you will usually be hired first over outside candidates for positions within that hospital.

Just wanted to add.... I am doing the ADN to BSN route. I got my ASN, got a job as an internal applicant, and am going back to school at UMass Boston online to get my BSN and improve job prospects down the road.

Thank you for the information, and sorry for the late reply. I m finally settle after my move, and can't wait to go back to school. Still trying to figure out the best route, as you indicate a BSN program would be more beneficial.
