MGH Accelerated BSN

I am going to be applying to MGH for their accelerated BSN program, but wanted to know the level of difficulty to get in? Also, anyone who has attended there, do you like it? Do you feel it was worth the cost?

-I have a 3.59 undergrad GPA

-3.7 prerequisite GPA

-Been a Hospice volunteer for 2 years

-Volunteered in West Africa for 6 weeks (not healthcare related)

-Did an internship in a Pathology Laboratory

-Volunteered with an urban youth environmental program for girls

-Work as a librarian

I was admitted to summer 2012 without credentials as extensive as yours so I'm sure you'll definitely get in. Just started class for the summer semester and so far it's been pretty challenging but a good learning experience. One of the plus sides is having close affiliations with Mass General Hospital so you get clinical experiences there or at one of the other significant hospitals in the Boston area. Cost isn't too bad considering many accelerated programs are in the similar range. Let me know if you got any questions.

Hi! I was accepted into the direct entry msn program for pediatrics. I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit more about your experiences (good and bad) and how you see MGH in comparison to some of the other nursing schools. Thanks!

hi maqer! How is your schedule like at MGH? Do you have great work opportunities since you get good clinical experiences at MGH?

The schedule at MGH varies between semester to semester. The first semester, you spend a considerable amount of time on campus and in labs to get you familiar with clinical settings. They go through front loading for a few weeks before you start your med-surg rotation. A lot of courses are online/hybrid which is helpful for your schedule. As the program progresses, you spend less time in class room.

You get opportunities to make certain connections through your clinical experiences. But to be honest, the market for new grad nurses is very very competitive. A lot of students become PCA's after their first semester and some got those jobs through the connections they made. My advice is to get as much pre nursing health experience as you can get so you have more on your resume to make you stand out after you graduate whether it's working as a PCA or volunteering. I have heard stories of some hired from the program by MGH but I'm not sure how common it is.

hey @maqer do u think the program is doable for single moms?? was it a miserable intense program at ugh or a positive intense?
