UMSON CNL Fall 2017

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

Hello all! I'm very interested in applying to UMSON for their CNL program for Fall 2017 entry. Does anyone know when the application will open up or better yet how to locate it under the drop down tab where it says "Application Type" in the application portal?

Congrats to you!!! I am a Baltimore native. Feel free to ask any questions!!

I just got invited to an interview! Did you hear back yet? @smnursing28

Hello, @Cannurs, and @S.Tackett, congratulations on your acceptance! I really envy you guys :-)

I did my interview about a week ago, and I was told that "2-3 weeks, snail mail."

So my question is how can I check if I am not accepted or not? 1) Surf status change before snail mail 2) Snail mail 3) Phone call 4) email?

It would be helpful if you can share the procedure or experience that you have had. Plus, do they offer scholarship (the mail contains merit scholarship information other than depositing money?)

Thanks.

p.s. @ Cannurs, may I PM you in regard to other school? (I guess I am on the same boat as you CNL and JHU, not sure if I remember any post from JHU page, if not please never mind, thanks.)

Hey sonagi87! I received a phone call telling me that I was accepted and would be receiving a letter in the mail. The letter came about a week later and was a standard acceptance letter - on top of the deposit information. You have to submit a $400 deposit within 14 days of receiving the letter to be admitted. There is no financial aid/scholarship info on the sheet - they don't release that info until April and it comes from the Financial aid office.

I hope this helps!

@sonagi87 Hey! I was deciding between jhu or umb. I decided to stick with my first choice of umb. Plus jhu is very expensive!

Also, I got a phone call and letter in the mail. Im from Baltimore so the letter came relatively quick. Also your surfs account will change from "committee ready" to "admit-institution"

Make sure you complete your fasfa. They have yet to distribute financial aid awards.

Thank you so much @S.Tackett! I was able to understand the procedures after reading your stories. I guess you should work at UMSON Student resource! It was very very helpful and thank you so much. I am doing my waiting game with SURF. Still says committee ready, and I hope this changes as Admit-Institute and I can join the FB page you created. Thanks!

Thanks @ Cannurs, may I ask your decision making process? I missed both schools' opening day so I was looking for someone like you who was accepted from JHU and UMB. I currently immigrated to Baltimore and it would be really helpful if you can advise me as a local person. Thanks again!

Congrats to all who were accepted already!! I'm really hoping to get into UM this time around but my application is still marked as complete & ready for review. I'm not sure if I should prepare for the worst because I might have applied too late.

@sonagi87

Well both of the schools are basically in the same area. My mom graduated from umson and is a clinical instructor at jhu.

UMB has VERY friendly faculty and staff! I love every interaction that I have had when I go there. It's cheaper, UMB is about 16,000 a semester which is basically 32,000 a year . Jhu is about 68,000 a year.

Jhu is basically known for its name but I personally think that UMB is better fit for me because of the familiarity of the university and atmosphere of the students. One of my friends is currently in the spring 2017 cohort for the CNL program. She has been saying positive things about her experiences and highly recommends I choose UMB.

Also UMB has a smaller class size versus John Hopkins that has 150 students. Needless to say, I was not familiar with John Hopkins campus and didn't really know anyone in the program to give the real scoop! My mom believed it didnt matter, because they are both good schools.

So with all those aspects and much prayer, I choose UMB.

Hope this helped!

@Cannurs,

Thank you very much for your evaluation and I do really appreciate your thoughtful comments.

True, it's always good to learn from people who are local to the area and members who are involved in actual medical/nursing fields.

I envy you have a friend who are actually in CNL program, and it would be helpful to share her positive stories for us.

Sorry for the late reply - had evening class for nutrition yesterday- and now I am catching up with your opinions, and it's still hard to pick one though. :-)

Have a nice day and stay warm.

Yay! Thanks everyone! I finally got in! They changed my status as "Admit-Institution" finally. It took just a week after my interview and I am so happy for this and I hope all of you guys can hear from them soon.

Congrats!!! @sonagi87
