UMB Adult Health

U.S.A. Maryland

Hi UMB students,

I just finished my first semester a few weeks ago and I'd like to know what to expect in adult health, specifically my questions are:

1)I know we have to prepare for the clinical the evening before. When can I come in to the hospital to do this? Can I do it at 7 pm?

2) Is there a lab associated with the class or just lecture?

3) How are validations done?

4) How many care plans does one need to do throughout the semester?

5) How is the class graded?

Thanks All for taking the time to give feedback. I really appreciate it!

All of the answers to your questions will depend largely on who your clinical instructor is, and what clinical site you are attending. Best to try not to stress too much about these things now, but wait until you know where you are going to be and what your clinical instructor expects from you. For example, I know that my clinical instructor was very keen on careplans and we had to do several. However, classmates at other sites only did maybe one careplan the whole semester. As far as grading goes, if you fail the clinical portion of the class you fail the whole thing, even if you are getting all A's on the classroom portion and vice-versa.

Hi Taketwoasprin,

Thanks for the reply. I appreaciate your perspective-I'm signed up for WHC for adult health clinical. Can you tell me if you've had to do validations same as we did the 1st semester in 304? Also-what about the context of health delivery class? I'm taking it at shady grove-do you know if attendance in the class on a weekly basis is compulsory? It just seems like a really silly class. Can you advise how that class was graded?

Thank you,

GL
