UMAB CNL Program; out hanging on a limb.

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

I applied to three different nursing programs. Waitlisted at Towson, accepted to Stevenson.. still no word from UMAB CNL after 3 months and counting. Like a lot of folks I have been OCD about checking my status on the SURFS system, and it has never been updated from "Committee Ready". I know they are notorious for letting people sink, swim, or just flounder about in the waves, but is it asking too much to get a thumbs up or down at this point? I know at least 2 folks from other threads who have been accepted; is a continuing "no response" supposed to be some sort of tacit rejection and I am too slow on the uptake? I've already sent an e-mail to the admissions coordinator asking what the window for decisions is and my next step would be to call. Anyone else wait for what seemed like an insane amount of time for UMAB SON to make a decision? Did you end up getting in or not? Definitely frustrating to be left hanging like this.

I mentioned on another thread that I finally got word back from the program and was accepted. I do still wish that there was a bit better communication between the school and the applicants, but I also appreciate that schools were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of applications this year. Can't wait to get started on a new and challenging career.

Congratulation

Congrats, but if you go there, don't expect the communications to improve.

Hi *ac*..

Yeah I quickly accepted the spot in the program; it was my first choice and to say I am stoked would be an understatement (well, with everything but the student loans, that is). I was warned that information, guidance, and clear instruction are often not forthcoming from UMB, but some schools are just like that, and luckily I consider myself a "squeaky wheel" when necessary, so hopefully I will be able to navigate. You sound like you have had some (negative?) experiences with the lack of communication from UMB to it's students; any details that would help the rest of us newbies?

I graduated in 2007. I've talked to people who went there 10 years ago and people going there now, and nothing has changed. There's a lot of turnover in the administration, and quite a bit in the faculty, too. Always a lot of confusion. You just can't expect them to help you with any admin-type issues. You have to run it all down yourself.

But I also work with people who went to many other schools and all have the same complaint.

Nursing school is just a means to an end... just remember that and you'll be fine.
