need information on Columbia, Md area

I would like to move to Columbia in the next 2 mos. Pls give me a little feedback on the area. I am moving from Loganville, Ga.

It's really nice and suburban but really expensive. Columbia, MD was listed as one of the most desirable places to live in the country by Money Magazine.

They have a great mall, great 'towns', great schools and restaurants. I'd live there myself if I could afford it.

Do you know the starting rate for a new graduate nurse at Howard County General Hospital. i believe it is in Columbia? any information about the hospital will be helpful.

I have no idea. I know that the hospital is part of the Hopkins health system. I would imagine that the rate is up there.

It's $22.50 for a new grad.

I live in Columbia. It is very nice, with the exception of a few neighborhoods. It is very expensive, though. I couldn't afford our house on my own. There are a lot of nice areas in the Baltimore metro area, though. I know a lot of relocating people who are shocked about the cost of living. Rents are $1200+. Townhouses are over $350k easy. SFH $350k, mostly $400k+.

While we live here and like our house, I wouldn't limit myself to only the Columbia area when looking (if cost is an issue.) If you're renting, though, I'd probably stick to Columbia.
