Howard Community College waitlist?

U.S.A. Maryland

So I'm very interested in the HCC program, so much that I'm already looking for apartments (while in Bahrain, lol) in the the Howard County/ Anne Arundel County area, my husband is currently residing in DC, but he seems okay with the move. but my question is, is there anyone that can break down the whole waitlist, from what I've read, it seems if you are waitlisted, it seems to go by pretty quickly, not like where I'm from (Kansas) the waitlist is like 5 years.

It is a great program! If you are looking for apartments, look in Howard County. In-county residents are first drawn in the lottery. Because there are so many applicants, it is nearly impossible to be accepted if you are not in-county. Those who are on the wait list will usually make it into the next semester's cohort, but out-of-county does not roll over (as far as I know), so you would be waiting years. I believe they accepts 70 students in the fall and close to that in the spring. If you are interested in the accelerated program, have finished all of your pre-req's, and your grades are good enough (you need 15 points), they have "rolling admission." You would apply in the fall and start the following summer. There is no wait list if you meet those requirements, and your county of residence won't matter. The accelerated program is great because you do 2 summer semesters and finish in 14 months!

That's awesome, this has been my choice of program since about two years ago, I was stationed in Bethesda, MD in the Navy since 2011 and knew the Navy was not my calling, so I've had the plan to go HCC since then, I extended in the Navy to come to Bahrain so I could save a good amount of money before getting out, I'm also thankful to have the Post 9-11 GI Bill housing allowance so I don't HAVE to get a job and focus completely on my schooling, I'm really excited to start the program even if it will be a year from now lol, thank you for the info as well, are you a current student or graduate of the program?

I am a current student in the last semester of the program. I, too, was in the Navy :-) The VA is great at HCC. If you have any questions, you can always email [email protected] and they will assist you in the process of setting up your GI-Bill payments. Have you completed your pre-req's yet? If not, I suggest CLEP-ing out of as many as you can while you are still in the military. IF they still pay for them…when I was in (a LONG time ago) they were free for us to take. I regret not taking advantage of that when I had the chance :-) It would have saved a ton of time!

GOOD LUCK to you! HCC is a great choice. The program is hard, but totally worth it!

That's awesome! And thank you so much! Always nice to hear from a fellow shipmate, I want to Clep, I'll go to the Navy College office tomorrow and see about it.

Hey! I was out of state on the waiting list and my spot did roll over, so the wait shouldn't be too bad

I would recommend their accelerated program. They base their decision off of a point system. I think the deadline is in December

roxiroxmysox what do you mean by your spot rolled over, meaning you eventually got in?

Val0512 I'm actually more interested in the accelerated program, would you say I would get in quicker than the traditional program.

I don't know about the accelerated program. But for traditional I didn't get in for the fall so I got bumped up to the top of the list for the spring. I wish I could have done the accelerated as well... But I love my classmates and traditional is a little less stressful and people seem a little less cut throat and competitive.
