The University of Maryland admissions process looks pretty intimidating, but like others have said- they don't just look at your GPA. That's also coming from someone who has about a 3.1 overall cumulative from everything I've ever taken since 2005...not the highest right? While I did graduate with a degree from community college that had a 3.625 (my prereqs) I was so worried that grades from my silly freshman year would weigh me down.

I don't know if this will help but even though I'm not going to Shady Grove (I'm like the lone Baltimore campus in the other thread haha) I wish someone would have told me that they look at experience and overall changes throughout your academic career.

Just thought I'd add my two cents. :twocents:

I'm currently attending the campus in Baltimore and it's strange but a lot of people who applied for Shady Grove got placed here in Baltimore and people who wanted to be in Shady Grove got stuck here in Baltimore... same school but a big difference in commute for some.

I really recommend you to also do some volunteer work and possibly some shadowing. Like what others have been saying, it's not all about the GPA and if it's a university or not.

Did anyone apply with only 2 sciences completed and get in?

By the end of this fall I will have completed microbiology and chemistry both with A's. I have all A's in my other classes except 1 ( :( college algebra) . I was wondering if it would be a waste of 50$ to apply for fall09 since I won't have ap1 or 2 done yet.

Should I save the 50$, wait and apply for spring 10; until I am finished with ALL the prereqs?

I wouldn't wait. Applying is a process. By the time you get all your ducks in a row: The NET, your essay, etc. it will be May before you know it & your spring classes will be finishing up by then so there will be more there for the evaluation committee to go on.

I was in a somewhat worse situation - I didn't start until Spring 08 and finished up my prereqs in Aug. I didn't even try to get into UMB in the fall but did apply to another university that had a later cutoff date. I couldnt get their entrance exam done in time so I had to defer my application to Spring 09. They didnt charge me another application fee to do that. I would imagine that UMB would allow you to do the same thing if things are looking iffy.

Check the Shady Grove website. They are always having information sessions for potential nursing students. They will be able to answer your questions and/or give you the appropriate contact info. I went to one even after I started the application process and found it helpful.

Good luck!!
