this is long, apparently has gone on for some time. I am new to the job but not the facility.

lpn supervisor hired 5 yrs ago has been nasty and rude to rn supervisor who has been with facility for 20 yrs. had not been reported to me until recently.

both work indep. of each other but each head their own units and head different teams that address different things(qa, wound care, restraints, behaviors, activities,supervision, inservices etc).

On the teams that the lpn heads she does not communicate important things to rn, dates and times of meetings, makes all the decisions and changes by herself including some changes to paperwork, has stated that old things were stupid and everyone is jealous of her. Has dismantled many programs and rules that have been in place for years most of which have been set up by state and has affected the way we document and program things. Is rude and does not want to discuss problem,says she is being childish, yet expects rn to sign off on things that a lpn can not sign.

I am caught between a rock and a hard place, part of the problem is that the old and new adm. staff party together and are good friends with the lpn and want to get rid of the rn most likely because she is right. she also however has a permanent disability which is disfiguring to some degree but doesnt interfere in any other way except that they dont like her. I have been here a long time also and dont know what to do. rn is ready to quit or get a lawyer. any suggestions.

Well first off I wouldn't want to be any part of that situation:nono:. I too am a LPN and I would never do that to a co worker no matter how much I dislike her! If I were the RN I would obtain a lawyer, there is no good reason that the administrative heads are allowing this to go on- I don't care what they do together in there off time.Maybe the RN should start refusing to sign off on her paperwork. I know that is not the right way of going about it but there comes a point and time.The administration needs to rethink there jobs- we are all here to do a job NOT benefit outside the work place. I have been in that situation before with nurse aides and was told that I was playing favorites which I wasn't- but you know how the talk is among women. So I decided no more outside facility entertainment with the girls. And it seems to be so much better. I am so happy that I get along with my coworkers.....

There are a couple of things about this that bring up flags to me. One is that management is partying or fraternizing with the staff. That was always taught to me as being a no-no. Second, if an LPN is in charge of a unit, she unltimately has to be defer to an RN, any RN. Third, if paperwork/forms/policies are put into place by me due to ease of work, state cites, or corrections.... no one is to alter from them without permission.

Sounds like the LPN needs to be disciplined or if that doesn't work, terminated.
