What are your clinical experiences like?

Nursing Students LPN-RN

I'm curious to hear how your clinicals are, in regards to the fact that you are already a nurse.

Here is my concern. I have worked as an IV certified LPN in acute care for 7 years. I'm concerned that maybe my preceptors won't think I need as much precepting because of my previous experience.

Do you feel like you were treated differently, because of your experience? Was this positive or negative? On one hand, I wonder if I will get that much more out of the experience, because I'm starting out at a higher level than some nursing students. On the other hand, will the precepting nurse treat me more like an equal, and not oversee me as much, therefore I won't learn as much?

The good thing is that everyone in my precepting group is in the LPN to RN program, so although we all have different backgrounds, we are also all already nurses. So it's not like I am the only one. But we were just all kind of wondering what sort of reception and treatment we could expect. Incidentally, at the hospital we are going to, I am under the impression that we are the only LPN to ADN students there--the other two colleges that utilize this hospital as a clinical site are 4 year universities that only offer a BSN. I'm also curious as to how that will affect our clinicals, or if it will affect them at all.

So, would those of you who have already attended some clinicals as an LPN to RN student like to share some of your insight and experience?

I'd sure appreciate it! Thanks!
