Survived the first week! WHOOP WHOOP!

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Just want to share how my first weekend at school went. It was sooooo exciting! We have one of the funniest, most experienced and understanding instructors ever so that's a big positive. He started class at 9 am instead of 7 this weekend to let everyone get familiar with their drive and how traffic is going to be and what not. How considerate is that??!

Friday, was orientation and introductions which was great. He spent that day fostering a classroom community by getting us to know our classmates and then by getting to know our individual learning styles so he can adapt his approach to us (once again, super considerate!). He's really big on us knowing and involving each other in our learning because he says there is no such thing as an individual nurse, it's all group effect to get the best result for a patient.

Saturday we delved into some basic math, dosage calculations and nurses logic. All that went pretty smooth, basic dosage calculations don't seem that hard, especially the way he taught us. We use ATI, which has a wealth of resources to utilize so I'm definitely going to take full advantage of that. Not too much homework so far, just a take home test on the student handbook for our program and some ATI assignments.

On Sunday we went over more nurses logic and different types of NCLEX questions (ummmm no one told me that there were drag and drop, fill in the blank, and case study type questions on the NCLEX!!) He even taught us how to break a question down and key words to look for that helps us answer questions even though we have no idea what they are talking about. I couldn't believe it! It actually worked! (Yea, he quizzed us on it!)

We get our books on Friday, including a 2000+ page Fundamentals book which I am excited to get into! We also do our ID cards and get fitted for our uniforms and I do believe we receive our fanny pack thing also (pen light, scissors, all that good stuff.)

So over all he just eased us into things and got us familiar with everything this week, the "real" stuff starts Friday. I know this is lengthy but I wanted to give a day by day sort of thing. I wanted to know everything possible before the first day of class and I know others will too. I'll keep ya updated AN!

Sounds like you have a pretty great instructor!! I go for my orientation in August and start my classes in September, I can't wait. So excited!!! Best of luck to you :)

Awesome! Today was my first day of my first semester! There's only 9 weeks for this semester to take pharm/drug cal and fundamentals so we hit the ground running today...but I love it! :)
