Mid-Nursing School Crisis

Hello All,

I'm currently in my third semester of nursing school, and I've enjoyed every minute of it. It's just that lately I've been feeling afraid that I don't have what it take to be a nurse. I love clinicals, I love patient interaction, and my grades are the top of my class. I'm just terrified that I may do the wrong thing and harm someone. It's just hitting me that there is so much that I don't know about, and with this being my last semester I'm scared. I was just wondering if anyone else has similar feelings and if so was it just nerves or was it because they decided that nursing wasn't the best career choice for them. I still really want to be able to help people and see them get well, but I'm just afraid. I appreciate all input.

This is all very normal and frankly kind of good. I would rather have a nurse who was smart, but careful because of her fear than a nurse who was carefree because she thought she knew it all.

None of us will ever know everything there is to know about nursing. Everyday is a learning opportunity. Good luck to you with the rest of your schooling and in your career.

First let me say congratulations on making it this far with amazing grades! It's normal to feel that way. If you didn't there would be reason for concern. Through my experience you never learn it all in a class room.. You absolutely have to get on the job training. And as a novice nurse you will have a proctor until you're comfortable working alone. Don't worry! You ARE competent! And will be a GREAT nurse!!!

I don't feel scared I just feel uneasy that im not really good with my medications. I also have held very high grades throughout my program but man am I afraid to take that NCLEX when im done. I do think being afraid is normal it shows that you care enough not to be careless. I feel that nursing is the kind of field that you can really go home and say you learned something new everyday so eveyone is learning even the lady who has been a nurse for 40 years still can learn something because every human is different. Hope this helps stay encouraged and finish strong!

Oh I just realized, sorry about my use of female pronouns in my previous post. Please don't take it offensively if you identify otherwise.
