Got the LPN program information today

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Today I got the LPN program information from the technical school near me. They are accredited. According to the brochure, it will cost a little over $2000 for the entire program ($1050/per semester not including books, uniforms, supplies, pre-test fees) ...which sounds pretty good to me. I do have to take LPN official National League of Nursing Entrance Exam (NLN) (which consists mainly of reading, math & natural science). It says I have to score at least in the 60 percentile. Is this the same as the NET test that I've seen people here talking about?

I'm so excited to have this information, yet so bummed, because I'm not going to be able to go for about 3 yrs, but this gives me a look at what to expect. They even sent the curriculum, and what classes will be given in each semester. I must admit, I'm kind of intimidated! The LPN program is only offered full-time.

Here's the first sememster:

-Basic Nursing Skills

-Human Growth & Development

-Anatomy & Physiology

-Nutrition & Diet Therapy

-Personal Vocational Relationships (PVR)

-Medical-Surgical Nursing

-Pharmacology

Second semester:

-Maternal/Newborn Nursing

-Pharmacology

-Medical-Surg Nursing

-Anatomy & Physiology

-Mental Health

-Pediatrics

-Geriatrics

-PVR II Personal Vocational Relationships

The classes run from 8am-3:45pm. And begin in July. By the time I'm ready to start school (in 3+ yrs) my oldest will be almost 13, and my other two, will be 10 & 5. Hopefully the school tuition fees won't be too much higher in 3.5 years from what they are now. LOL.

One thing I'm surprised isn't on there is CPR. I would have thought that would be definitely be a class that needs to be taught to every nurse. I will have to ask them about that.

Even though I'm not going to start anytime soon, I'm going to call them and ask if I can attend the LPN orientation, just to see what is offered. If not, then I'm going to set up a meeting with someone there to talk about my future.

I'm so excited! :)

tntech1~ Oh I wish I could! ;) But I currently have an 18 month old, and babysit my 2 nieces during the weekdays, so right now is not the right time for me. I plan to start schooling once my youngest is of school age. I can't wait! :D

When will the next LPN course start?? Maybe by then you can set up some type of childcare for your little one and nieces. Do not put this off any longer (without compromising your child's safety and your sanity). Or at least start some of your pre -requists for a RN program. Just do something while this time is passing. I have children and understand your situation but I also know time is of the essence. At this time I am looking for before and after school care for my daugther, also childcare for the days I have school and her school is out for a break. No matter when you decide to go you will have to deal with some form of child issues. I also have a 17 year old.

I hate for you to wait ,when your heart in so into it now

That program sounds VERY affordable! Good for you! I saw that you are wanting a part time program and I wanted to say that I can relate. Full time was not an option for me either because I did not want to be away from my baby all day. So I checked my board of nursings website and called all the LPN programs that they had listed. I asked all of them if they were planning to offer part time programs in the future. 2 of the 3 said yes! It is worth a shot. You can atleast put the idea in someones head about starting part time programs in your area. I would try to get in contact with the program coordinators if possible. Good luck! It sucks to wait, but on the other hand you won't regret spending all this time with you child!

pnhopeful,

Thanks for responding! :)

Can you give me the web address for the board of nursing? I'd like to do the same thing and check into any programs that might offer p/t.

Thanks!
