Care plan help please

Hello! This is my first post here..i found it on google and thought it seemed helpful.

I'm writing a care plan for my LPN class and I am trying to decide which is priority: Ineffective Airway Clearance or Deficient Fluid Volume. Im thinking it is Ineffective Airway clearance because Maslow's Hierachy of needs states oxygen first.

So if you all could tell me what you think it would be greatly appreciated! Thankss!

you are correct. priority sequencing of your diagnoses are:

  1. ineffective airway clearance
  2. deficient fluid volume

here is a listing of maslow's hierarchy of needs along with a weblink to a page about it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs

  1. physiological needs (in the following order)
    • the need for oxygen and to breathe [the brain gets top priority for oxygen, then the oxgenation of the heart followed by oxygenation of the lung tissue itself, breathing problems come next, then heart and circulation problems--this is based upon how fast these organs die or fail based upon the lack of oxygen and their function.]
    • the need for food and water
    • the need to eliminate and dispose of bodily wastes
    • the need to control body temperature
    • the need to move
    • the need for rest
    • the need for comfort

[*]safety and security needs (in the following order)

  • safety from physiological threat
  • safety from psychological threat
  • protection
  • continuity
  • stability
  • lack of danger

[*]love and belonging needs

  • affiliation
  • affection
  • intimacy
  • support
  • reassurance

[*]self-esteem needs

  • sense of self-worth
  • self-respect
  • independence
  • dignity
  • privacy
  • self-reliance

[*]self-actualization

  • recognition and realization of potential
  • growth
  • health
  • autonomy

I hit a snag writing care plans and prioritizing food/water/air. But it helps to remember you can survive (roughly): 3 min w/o air, 3 days w/o water, 3 weeks w/o food.

And airway trumps tissue perfusion. You can't perfuse your tissues if you can't even take the O2 in.

Maybe that will help, too.

ABC's, dude

ABCs are great, but what happens when you have safety, self-esteem and teaching diagnoses as well?

Safety comes first on Maslow's Hierarchy.

Edit: Wait, I just realised who posted that so apparently I'm missing something...?

I think so. Better look at the pyramid again.

Well... safety, like safety from falls? Because that was my assumption. And teaching of what? Patient teaching... how to care for themselves?

hey, anyone could help me to make a ncp for leptospirosis,..

tnx a lot
