California LVN School Accreditation

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Hello all!

So I am considering going the LVN to RN route and I am a little confused about the Accreditation part. I am willing to repeat some classes for my RN but I really would prefer to keep that number low. For example I am considering one school in California (unitek collage) that is:

BVNPT accredited till 2020 according to BVNPT - California Approved Schools but does not list that on their actual website? any idea why?

their BRN program is CCNE is accredited...since I am going for the vacation nurse program not sure if that matters? just thought I would mention it.

ACCSC accredited.

those are the only accreditation - are they okay? should I be looking for something else? I read I should be looking for state certification.....would that be the BVNPT certification I need to look at? or is there another certification I should be looking at?

Thanks!

Hello,

what accreditation should I be looking for? I Am planning a LVN bridge to RN route...I don't mind repeating some classes but I would like some credit for at least part of my LVN training. I am aware it depends what the collage, where I would get my RN, accepts as credits...but I imagine there are certain accreditation that might benefit me? Maybe BVNPT? Would that be enough? Or is there other accreditations a I should be looking for?

thanks!

The BVNPT does not accredit LVN programs. The BVNPT only grants approval for LVN programs to operate in the state of California.

For transferability of credits earned, the school should ideally be accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). This is a regional accreditation and ensures your credits will be accepted for transfer at most schools in the U.S.

However, the vast majority of LVN programs in CA are not WASC accredited. In addition, a couple of readers might chime in and suggest you attend a program that has programmatic accreditation from ACEN (formerly known as the NLNAC). The problem is that no LVN programs in the state of California are ACEN accredited.
