Hi! I'm a caregiver - wondering who has done this while in LVN school, how compatible was the program with your work. I want to go to an 11 month private program, and in a few months am looking for a live-in evening position.

I'm an LPN student and I work in a group home. I take care of diabetics, (Blood sugars and insulin), urostomies, irrigating SP caths, and med passes. Other duties I perform give me some experience that I believe will benefit me in future as a nurse. I only work weekends, so I have time for studies and school.

i'm attending nursing school and i work in an icf-dd/h facility. aside from giving meds and assisting the consumers with their adls, their isn't much to compare.

Hi there,

I am in my final term of accelerated LVN school. I did the same thing you are trying to do. I had to be very careful with homecare because I'm very ambitious and enjoy learning new things. But guess what? I ended up dong much more than what I was hired for. I love all the learning experience, and I'm ahead of my classmate with things like Trache management, Ventilator, catheterisations, G-tubes- things you don't have many oppotunites to practise with at clinicals. It's even better when the case is staffed with other experienced licensed nurses. You get to learn more.

But, sometimes, I couldn't kill two birds with one stone (good grade versus money) and I ended up with a bad grade here and there.

So just make sure that you fully assess the case and know how much of a toll it will take on you.

I had a full quad, one time, who lived alone. When the other caregiver couldn't show up, I was stuck in there for a double shift. I couldn't go to school on time the next monday to take a test on time. Okay, I'm talking too much... But, you get the idea.
