Hi, is anyone thinking about applying to the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center, The school of Nursing the LPN program in Brecksville, Ohio in 2009? :)

If you want to be publically humiliated by teachers (in class as well as in hospital hallways), questioned constantly about your desire to be a nurse, held to a higher grading standard than any college or university in the state of Ohio, pay for all tuition up front with the risk of losing all your money if you fail any final/clinical/ at ANY point in the program - than this is the LPN school for you!!

Wow, YIKES you seem like you Paid In Full for the LPN Program at the School of Nurseing at the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center and you didn't PASS is this what your saying and you LOST all of your Money?????????:uhoh21: and they are RUDE and talk down to you???????

I was considering CVCC.... my only concern no one seems to have heard of the school..... any advice?

My daughter was a student there (she's 20 and has been an STNA for two years)....yes, they make you pay all fees upfront before you begin the second session (there are 3 sessions in the full time program - Anatomy/Physiology; Nursing Funds 1; Nursing Funds 2)...and she failed the second session final exam by 1% - passed the clinicals, but failed the final exam - yes, by 1%. And to boot, the remainder of the class learned the SCANTRON machine was failing and several questions were not scored....but that grades would stand because if they changed the current classes scores, they would be obligated to handscore all the exams from that current class from August '08 thru March '09. They won't do it.

Once you pay for the schooling, they have no need to keep you around, help you, be a mentor to you - they got their money and thats all they are concerned about. The head of the program, Mrs. Myrna George is one of the most rudest elderly persons I have ever met in my 46 years of life.

For a better program, try Metro Healths LPN program (I think its run in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic)...Its only 6K in price not the $11K you will dish out at CVCC. And their grading system is in line with colleges.

OMG.............so Once you pay for the schooling, they have no need to keep you around, or help you, or be a mentor to you - they got their money and thats all they are concerned about?????And they leave you doing this :banghead:as you pay back all that money?

Wow, they going around saying they want you to Pass and become a Nurse and what your saying is they could careless right thatit's all about the MONEY :twocents:

You got it Countryhrt......its unbelievable how 'helpful/kind' they seem during the orientation (right before you make the largest of the three payments)....they wanted me there then, and were happy for me to drop off the money order payments - no checks or credit cards accepted for the tuition part (as the Mom of the student)...but they didn't want me there when they told my daughter she was out of the program. They didn't allow me to see her grades - they didn't want me to even talk to them......my daughter got great feedback from the actual hospital nurses as well as patients as well as the clinical instructors (not the same people who are teaching in the classroom M-F)....all said she will make a great nurse....and then when she missed the section by 1% point academically - it was like: Bye Bye!

She/I paid for graduation ceremony, pictures, nurse board exam seat fee, Section III (nursing funds 2), fingerprinting, grad caps, etc....and she won't participate in any of it and there is NO REFUNDS!! Now, what college do you know of that charges you for a class that they don't deliver? And doesn't refund? Even at CSU you can still get 100% back if you drop the class a week into it!

A friend of my daughters was in the same class as her - he paid ALL upfront (we did 3 payments but last payment due before Nursing Funds II stars) - and failed the anatomy and physiology course (ends in October I believe) - he lost all the money as well.

I would seriously think about another school for nursing....was so disappointed in CVCC - my mother got her LPN at Parma School of Nursing which was bought by CVCC and we thought how cool it would be for my daughter to get her LPN there....oh well.

When your at the orientation Mrs George, and the Staff, really seem down to earth and say that it's not going to be easy but Her, and Her Staff, will work with you and be a good Mentor, in any way that they can be to you as your in school, they said they want to see each and everyone of us get thru the program, So after reading what you have to say about after the school get's your money PAID IN FULL, that they don't know you after that, Well that's just not right!! You would think with the World, at WAR........ and NO JOB'S and people doing with out like a roof over head, eating, high gas, and the list goes on that the school, would want to do what they say as in being a Mentor, and want to see you get in and out and become something in life. But you say that they are Rude and so on I just don't understand any of this at all! :uhoh21:

i am graduating in 4 days. this is a very tough school, but what school isn't?? if you work hard and want it bad enough you will graduate. the teacher's are hard, but USUALLY fair. of course there's going to be ones you don't necessarily get along with... but it really is not as bad as some people on here are saying. yes you do have to pay ahead... and just like in regular college if you pass a certain point you won't get your money back. this school has a great reputation because they bring out the best in you. they're tough because you need to be in nursing. it's not just all fun and games and no it's not like a different school. it's an accelerated program and don't go into it unless you're planning on taking it seriously. i did not work because i was in full time but i know people who did - and they're still here so it is possible. don't let anyone discourage you.... i probably know the girl that you're talking about and it is a shame she won't be there with us to graduate.... but it's hard and you have to be 100% commited. you end up like a family there because you are with the same people for 9 months, 40 hours a week. they help you - if i didn't have some of those teachers i'm sure that i wouldn't be graduating. so if you're ready for a challenge - do it! you'll be happy you did.

I graduated in 2008 from the part time/evening and weekend program. I absolutely LOVED it! I actually started the full time program in 2005 but was admitted to the hospital for a week , came back, finished my tests and took my final. Unfortunely I did not pass by 2%. That was not the instructors fault, they were very knowledgeable and helpful throughout my hospitalization...Mrs. George called my family daily to check on me! Yes did i waste money? Sure did. But with their encouragement I came back in 2006 for the part time program.

The full time program is INTENSE! Its a full time job and next to near impossible to work. They tell you that at the orientation. So the second time around i decided lets go part time and it was the best thing I have ever done.

Were the instructors tough? Sure but they wanted us to be strong intelligent nurses. I rec'd several job offers while working on my clinicals because it is a highly regarded school. We did clinicals at CCF, Southwest hospital, Parma as well as nursing homes. My instructors as well as Mrs. George were always willing to sit down and talk with me anytime I was having a tough time with a subject. I never felt intimidated during clinicals. If a procedure was new to you, they were next to you helping you through it. They definitely demanded a lot but I rec'd a great education.

You pay for your schooling in 3 portions....if you dont pass a portion of it no other school would refund your money either!

I just really don't agree with the above posts at all. It is a GREAT school with a wonderful reputation.

Thank you for responding.... I'm actually going to take the entrance exam @ ATS Thursday....I here so much that LPN's are being phased, eventually I want to bridge to RN but for right now LPN is better for me... I have a 6 year old to take care of and I can't be out of work that long with out income..... If you dont mind me asking as far as salaries/hourly pay what were you offered.... just trying to get an idea of the financial side of things...thank you for replying....Congrats
