Anybody take the TEASE Exam to get into Nursing Program

Hey guys, need help! I am an LVN who just finished all prereqs for the bridge program to RN and will be taking the TEASE exam in California to get into the RN Program. Anybody take it, how hard is it? How many pass it? I am freaked out after starting the study manual. The math and physics portion looks bad. Please let me know your thoughts. I am 50 years old and not good at math. I am afraid I can't pass this thing and have done all this for what if I can't get into a program. Most of CA schools require it now. What percentage is passing? Thanks for any help, advice, encouragement anybody has.

I had to take the TEAS test to get into my nursing school. From my understanding the same test that's given to those seeking LVN education is given for those seeking RN (just different score requirement). Earlier in the year I had applied to CSU Long Beach and had to take the same exact test that I'd taken for the LVN for the entry-level RN program there. I didn't want to retake it (or pay another fee) so I asked could the same test scores for LVN entry-testing apply towards the RN program (it was allowed). After they (the nursing committee @ CSULB) saw my scores cumulatively, I was told that they were very good but that I needed to step my scores up by about two points to be considered for entry level into their RN program.

My score at the time was 77% cumulative, but my LVN school only required certain portions and didn't count the science sections, so my score for them ended up being like 87%. If I were you, I'd ask the coordinator of the nursing program at my prospective school, are all parts of the exam counted towards your final qualification score to get into the program. If all sections will not count towards your final score, then just study for the ones that will. If they are all considered in the final score, then study everything, but put special emphasis on those parts you have issues with. Physical science and math are my weak points, but I found the math portions to be pretty easy and scored pretty high on them to my surprise.

Maybe you could get a cliffnotes version of Chemistry and physical science and then an Algebra/Geometry easy review book before the exam. If you do a couple of exercises out of those, in addition to the study guide, you will do just fine I'm sure. A few of the girls I took the test with failed and had to take it again, but I'm guessing it's because they didn't brush up on their skills---but to be honest I didn't either. I wish I had now, maybe I would have gotten into CSULB on the first try. The nice thing about the test is that you get instant feedback on whether you fail or not, so there's no guessing or waiting.

There was also a lot of critical thinking on the test as well, so definitely make sure you get sleep, take vitamins or do whatever it is you need to do to be mentally alert for the exam because it is tiresome. This would not be a good time to skip breakfast or lunch, you're going to need your energy.

Lastly, just remember that you can't possibly know everything on the test, just fortify the things you have strength in and review those you don't. You'll do fine! Good luck to you. Oh, btw, as far as the scores in what is passing and what isn't---for my LVN program I only need at least a 44% to gain entry, but for the RN, I needed at least a 79% on the same test. So aim high!

Dear Aries, thanks so much for all your advice and information. I will check with my school (Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, CA) what their passing score requirement is. I am like you math and physical science are my weak spots. Alot of what I am reviewing in that study guide I do not understand. I pulled out my elementary algebra book to figure out some of it. I know we have to pass all portions but I think from what I have heard the percentage is cumulative from all four areas. I thought I had till March to study now they say it will be given in February. Are you now in a bridge program? Good luck to you and thank you so much for all the time you took to answer my questions. I am going to go through the study guide and buy the 100 question online test on the TEASE website. Do you think that is enough? I am so stressed over this.
