Any Advice for Nursing School!!!!

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

i received my acceptance letter for the 2008 lpn program which begins august 27th of this year. believe me when i say that i am extremely excited and elated. however, i am so scared:eek: because i do not wanna mess this up. the class i have been accepted into only takes 30 students per class and they only let in 30 students per year. the class after this one will not begin until january of 2010. of course there are other private institution around which takes new applicant every semester but they charge a whopping $27-$30 thousand dollars, while the one i have been accepted to only costs $5,350.00 and thats including books uniform and everything. so i consider myself extremely lucky.

is there snyone out there that can offer me some advice on how to go through a nursing program successfully.

i need all the advice i can get. anything that worked for you please let me know

p.s.

you shouldn't need the date book right away. my school gave us a student planner with all of our other books. and those index cards are a great idea - the small ones she was talking about punching holes in & using a metal ring -- use the money you'll save on not getting a date book & go to wal-mart. in their stationary/school supplies section they have the index cards in a pack with the holes already in them and the metal ring enclosed(doesn't cost a lot - i'm cheap!).

i just graduated lpn last week & just got certified in iv therapy today; have a 24yr old and 17yr old twins --- and i'm 54 yrs old. i hadn't been to school in over 30 yrs & my brain had atrophied from school events, ptas, laundry, grocery shopping; being your everyday unpaid, underappreciated slave - for 17 yrs. the point being --- if i can do it you can.

study, pray, study, then pray some more!!!!! lpn programs are shorter, therefore more condensed & fast-paced. our instructors told us the 1st day that 70% of our work would be with your nose in the book on your own. for this one year you will have very little life outside of school. single mom -- i'd concentrate on my child, my schooling, & make sure to find time for you to calm down occasionally, so you can breathe & sleep!!!

it was the hardest thing i've ever done - spitting out 2 kids 6 minutes apart lady partslly, wasn't as hard as school -- but except for the birth of my kids, it's also been the most rewarding, exciting, amazing, knowledgible year of my life. it's tough, but when you get capped & pinned and graduate it'll all be worth it. a sense of pride in yourself for earning your licence and a sense of pride in the profession that you've chosen to persue. just imagine -- when you get to the end of your road, you'll be a nurse!!!!!!!

make your own good luck by succeeding at this and i'll keep you and the rest of the next classes in my prayers.

:yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :ancong!:

Wow, I know I am a quick learner so I'm not really concerned about school but this post really made me think. I am a full charge bookkeeper and work with "math" every single day. But..............I took business courses in high school, not college prep. The fact that I never took algebra or geometry scares me now. I was given a study hall in high school but I chose biology because I love it and took that as an elective so that aspect doesn't scare me but the math. I'm nervous now. Did anyone else out there start an LPN course without having those courses in school? Thanks Kim

Be aware of the clique that form and try and stay out of them. I'm finding my class has one clique in particular and whets interesting is its the guys who are the snitchiest (hope I can say that word)

Thank you - I am not a clique person at all so I'll be odd "man" out.

A good place to be. This is no time to get sucked into drama that others create

What website did you use for your flashcards?

Pattyew54 - you are my inspiration. I am 45 and I'm no longer going to worry that I can't hack it. Thank you so much for this terrific post.
