Which job should I go back to?

Nurses LPN/LVN

So I've tried, unsuccessfully, to find other jobs & nothing has panned out for me. I applied at hospitals that still hire LVNs, jails, pretty much anything I see online & in a newspaper but I never get the job. So now I'm wondering what I should do now? I have worked at both of these places before & they are going to take me back but the question is which one should I go back to?

The first one is a teen drug rehab facility. I worked there 1/13-6/13. I was working Mon-Fri 2-10 & I quit because I couldn't handle all the politics, bs & crap they made the nurses do. I got soo stressed, my boyfriend (at the time) left & I put in my 2 weeks notice. If I went back I would only work part time/weekends. This job pays $17/hr & is 45 minutes away.

The next job is PDN. I have done it off & on for 3 years. I am comfortable with it but the downside is if the family doesn't like me or the kid has to go to the hospital, I'm out of work & don't get paid. I could pick up multiple cases to cover myself. This job pays $18+/hr but I don't know where the case(s) will be, possibly up to an hour & a half away.

So here I am with this dilemma. I don't know which job to go back to. Maybe I shouldn't go back to either & just work at a grocery store. :/

Hmmm thats a toughie. Sounds like you didn't really like either one. Maybe since you will be part-time the teen rehab won't stress you out as much?!? Otherwise, I would say try other avenues. The thing with nursing is there is ALWAYS politics, so I have learned to just steer clear as much as possible and do my job the best I can. I have been in this field since I was 16 (started as a CNA) and every place I have ever worked has been full of politics, and pushing more and more tasks on the nursing department. The best way I deal with this is to treat the patients and families well and a little sense of humor. Good luck. Sorry I couldn't help!

Lol no. I know regardless of what avenue of nursing I choose there will ALWAYS be drama & work bs to deal with. I'm pushing more toward the teen rehab just because I can work weekends & try to avoid the admin & pick up more hours if I needed.

That actually sounds perfect. I know I cannot physically, mentally, or emotionally handle working a 40 hr week in nursing. My husband thinks Im just being a diva of a sort, but anyone who's in nursing can testify to how challenging it is to the mind and body. I work 3 days a week and frequently pick up a few extra shifts for coworkers needing days off and Im happy. I work second shift which helps with the politics issue! Good luck again :)

Yes, it could work. Now I just have to fill out the rest of the paperwork & psych myself up to go back. :p

I would suggest not only looking online and newspapers. I recently was hired at a facility that was not even advertising that they were hiring I basically googled LTC facilities in my area and also doctors offices and everyday for 2wks I went to about 2 or 3 and was never sure if they were hiring or not the last one I went to I was hired that day and I start Monday so dont limit yourself and get stuck doing something you do not like being a nurse is supposed to be rewarding if you must go back choose the one that cause the less stress and continue to search for something else

I can't even count the number of LTC facilities I have worked in & will never go back. But yeah, I could always apply to places that don't have ads up. It's just hard because I live in a somewhat small town & the bigger cities are 1 hour away.

Well I was going to go back to the teen drug rehab but my ex works the same days & hours I would. The break up was really ugly so now my only choice is PDN. Ugh. I know I'll get stuck driving an hour one way to work. Suck.

Wow... I hate how limited our job selections are as LPNs

Yeah me too. :/ The hospitals here still hire LVNs but there are soo many LVNs down here & I have never been given a job opportunity. There are always doctor's offices, MHMR facilities & such. But the nurses at the doctor's offices never seem to leave & I don't hear great things about about the state facility here.

If you and your ex work the same days and hours, just be professional - no need to be friendly if you don't want to. He/she is not worried or concerned that you will be working the same days hours! He/she is staying at a place they love. You should go back to the teen rehab if you really love it and it is close to home and just be professional at work with your ex.

Don't NOT go back because he/she is there! I work in addictions with adults and although a very different kind of nursing - it is rewarding. Do what YOU want, what fits YOUR life!
