Nurses LPN/LVN

Let me start with this..I love love love my job. I love my co-workers, my bosses and my residents. A few years ago, I was working both PM and NOC shift. The PM shift was hard on me and my family and esp during the school year. So I cut the PM shifts out and that put me at part time. I LOVED my new schedule.....my bank account...not so much. My hubby worked too but at the end of the day...it was a struggle. So I went to my boss and they had no other shifts open...even the PM shifts were full. I started looking for a part time job...and was offered a full time job..16hr shifts...two days a week with e/o weekends or work every weekend with a baylor bonus. . I went back to my current boss to see if they could offer anything similar and they said no. So..I went on call (mostly part time, but I was considered on call) and took the other position...16hrs..every weekend...3p-7am.. At first, I loved it..it was very different and a much bigger facility. Then things started to happen that I was not 100% comfortable with...like me being the only nurse for 112 patients with two TMAs and 5 CNA's during the night shift. It was busy and I handled it...but to me it was a bit much. But I kept on trucking.

About a year later, I was called by my part job DON. She offered me the weekends I have been wanting, and the hours. I told her I needed to think about it and she said she would match my current pay and add $2. After a few days of thinking about it..I went back to my old job...dayshift...7am-11pm every Sat and Sun.. It is a smaller facility..lot less stress...less drama...and overall a better job. I loved going to work and it has been amazing for the past two years. Now I am the only nurse at this facility that has these hours. All the other nurses work 8 hour shifts. I never really paid attention on how they have been making it work this long...but it has. Until June of this year. I was pulled into the HR office and she said that I would need to give up one of my weekends because it was no longer going to work with me working every weekend. I asked why and all she would say was that she cant do it anymore. That's it. We did have some new nurses start but I am not sure if that is why. I basically begged not to change my schedule. It works so well for me to home during the week with my children and I am starting RN classes next week. I told her no.. I needed my schedule as is. I was told to talk to the DON. I went to her and she said that for now..it wasnt working and that we could look at it later. We sat down and did a block schedule and it works...for now..but I lost the bonus pay. I was able to keep my weekends that I do work to 16hrs but yesterday I got a note saying that I would not be doing 16hrs any more and that I need to see her about my new schedule. I have been a nurse for a long time..and this to me is wrong. I went to my DON this morning but she was in conferences all day and said we could talk next week. I feel like I have to fight for my hours. On a side note...I do have a part time job that I could go full time with...I just rather keep my old job..just feels like I am being forced to change my hours w/o a valid reason why.

Employers create their schedules based on what works for them. No employee is guaranteed the schedule of the employee's choice. Often this changes with a change in management. A new manager is not obligated to follow the previous policies. If you can not make this situation work out, then your option is to leave. That might be the course of action desired by the employer to begin with. Making people miserable is one of the oldest tricks to get rid of people that management does not want around.

This is what I was afraid of. Management really has not changed. We have a new RN charge nurse who does not think that very highly of me (or other nurses). Myself and other nurses have reported her for falsifying vital signs and documenting on treatments she did not do. She threaten to have removed from "her weekends and other shifts". I laughed it off because I didn't think much of it. She hasn't been there but a few months so I didn't think she could request it.
