Graduated in '09 and still cannot find fulltime employment as an LPN!

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

HELP,

I graduated from LPN school in 09 and I still can not find fulltime employment as an LPN. I applied at several locations I would get an reply and when I respond back the job is taken. The only places that would hire me are staffing agencies and yes it is good money but not guaranteed hours. I need something with longevity and stability. I am willing to work just about anywhere just so I can have a decent resume that shows I have nursing experience.

I live in the Milwaukee area and yes I should go back to school to advance as an RN however I have financial needs that need to be met first.

I need a fulltime LPN JOB!!!!!

It is hard and I feel your pain. What worked for me, is not taking no for an answer and I am in Southern California where nurses are everywhere. I knew I wanted to work at a hospital and I applied to nursing homes, skilled nurses centers and hospital within a 100 mile radius. I was willing to drive for experience and I ended up getting my hospital job. So I suggest going outside the box & look within other cities around you and apply to every facility you are willing to drive too.

Well start out with agency first to atleast gain some type of experience and build your resume

The first step is to make your resume stand out even with next to none experience. I do not believe in following templates, given a lot of people do but try to make your own by looking at the templates for guidance and using Microsoft office, I did this and used lines and different fonts to break it up and make my resume looked clear and organized and I really do think that it helped me in landing my job, as well as getting called for more interviews! Also apply everywhere even if they want experience, I had 1 year of experience as an aid and my first nursing job asked for 1-2 years of nursing experience in the ad, I took a shot and here I am. Also STALK INDEED.COM every day, more than once a day as often as possible! Apply even after you have interviews! I hear so many people not applying for this job or that just because they had an interview a day or two before the ad was posted! And when you do get an interview walk in with confidence, review your notes for the type of position you could be given and on the company. If they are a "growing company" looking for someone PRN or only a day or two a week grab it up, be sure to let them know to notify you if a full time position comes available!
