I was wondering if anyone is starting or enrolled in one of their nursing programs. If so, do you live on campus and how do you like it?

I have been accepted into their ABSN program and I'm really excited. The school has great NCLEX pass rates.

@Loma

Congratulations. Sorry for the late reply. Recalling from the interview I had last year, it was very general and informal. It was more like the Dean explaining the program. Answering any questions you had. I don't recall any specific questions to us individually. Maybe why that program. Good luck.

Thank you for the response, cadyssa! I was just accepted today! I'm so happy to be getting into a program.

I'm wondering a little bit more about Louisiana College, how are the classes? Are the professors helpful? I will be moving far from home so I would like as much info as possible if you can. Also maybe in a private message if that's easier. Thank you!

@Loma28, I'll be in your class! Got an email last week saying I was accepted as well! I'm in state so I was able to go to an informational session then an in person interview. I wrote down some details about the program...what we study each semester, class and clinical arrangements, etc... at the info session if you'd like me to message you that I can!

Hello geauxtigers13, that is great! I would love to have any information since I am so far (San Francisco, CA) and I haven't yet received my admissions packet in the mail. Please message me at [email protected] if you can, it's my work email. Do you happen to know how many people are in our cohort? Also, why they are still accepting applications for the Fall 2014 start? Thanks so much, and congrats!

Congratulations on all who got accepted and who will be attending. I just read that the school was reaffirmed, woohoo :) So that is something you don't have to concern yourself with for the duration of the program.

The SACS status of Louisiana College just got changed in December. You can look up the exact changes. I recently graduated the program and I am waiting to sit for my NCLEX. Looking back on my experience there, it was extremely challenging times, but I absolutely loved it. I formed great friendships with other students and professors. Since the school is small, it is to a nursing student's advantage to go here. Good luck with everything!

Just got accepted into the Fall 2014 cohort and am wondering if anyone knows what the class schedule will be like? Are there any clinicals on the weekends?

@ Gatorgirl4 - I am unsure whether or not there will clinicals on the weekends; canursehopeful may be able to tell us

@ canursehopeful - Did you live on campus for housing? If not, in what area? Also which hospitals are the clinicals at?

Thanks :)

@ Loma, have you figured out what you're going to do about housing?

There were no clinicals on weekend except if you had missed a clinical or you were the one odd group in the summer session that had to do one clinical day on a Saturday. Clinicals are Tuesday and Wednesday during the regular semester and then it gets changed in the summer. I did not live on campus. I lived in a tiny quiet apartment complex about 8 minutes from campus with another nursing student. Housing is a little difficult to find so you will want to start on it as soon as possible. There are three big hospitals in the immediate area that we do clinicals at. Then we went to other agencies for Public Health. Passed my NCLEX in 75 questions!

Does anyone know of any good apts in the area? There aren't a lot of them online or at least nice ones.

I'll be in your class! I went to one of the informational sessions before the interviews and all of that where they just talked about general info etc. about the program...and no there shouldn't be clinicals on the weekend, unless maybe something happens during the week and it's rescheduled or something. I have notes written down but off the top of my head (I may be getting the days mixed up), we go to classes and lecture 3 days per work week (Mon-Fri), and clinicals the other two days. They said each day you start early, but a lot of times they will wrap up earlier on Fridays so that you can start preparing for the next week, and use that extra time in the labs if you need extra clinical practice on the mannequins etc.

I also saw your post in the other thread about housing- I'm from Shreveport but currently living in Baton Rouge so I drove through there last month just to kind of scope it out and see what my housing options were because like you I found NOTHING online...and the places that I did find online, when I drove by them in person they were not up to par whatsoever haha. They were just finishing up construction on some new apartments though that looked super nice; I just happened to drive by them when looking for other places. They don't have a website yet though and once I find their little brochure I'll tell you the name of it! I have a few friends from Alexandria so I'm going to keep bugging them about where to live! I just ended up driving through nice neighborhoods near downtown/the LC area and found duplex and townhouse type places that had for rent signs in front of them...that seemed to be the most effective way of finding housing! Of course it was hard to lock down one of those because I was looking so far in advance. Anyways hope this somewhat helped?!
