Did anyone in the area get disaster pay, etc with the recent hurricanes. We got killed @ my hospital and absolutely NO reimbursement for being forced to live @ the hospital to make sure we would "make it to our shifts" yet please keep in mind "this is not a shelter." Is it true OLOL got $2 gas???

I haven't heard anything, i will post if anything comes up

Ours was pathetic. An extra 3 hours of pay (base pay, no diffs) for each day we were stuck there. I work at Ochsner.

Thanks for the info. I can't believe the loyalty of the staff and the things people did to make sure they were at work when needed. Who else would leave their home in the face of impending disaster. And to sleep on the floor in a hospital. We could hardly get water from administration, let alone food. It took over 24 hours to get fans brought in. At the end of the week they passed out tshirts. They're hideous and embarassing. They shouldn't have given us anything. The shirts are a slap in the face especially since they're like $2 quality. Absolute lack of respect.

Ok I am confused. I was informed by a friend who works at University that the staff was paid for 24/7 for each day they were obligated to be on site for Gustav (which was 8 days). They stayed at the hospital 24/7, worked 12 hour shifts, and therefore were paid around the clock. They were paid diffs as well as their regular base pay ($$$$). Nurses shared rooms with one roommate and ate MRE's or whatever they chose. She was actually very happy and inspired me to sign up for future hurricanes in New Orleans for the great disaster pay (several thousand dollars).

I also spoke with the recruiter for East Jeff and was told the pay is 24/7 as well for the time required to be on site for a disaster.

Is this pay scale for disasters different at each facility? I'm curious because I am moving back home to New Orleans soon.

apparently, things are better in NO than BR, I am talking BR. Guess things are far different 1 hour up the road.
