Personally I wore some adidas shoes that had a little bit of tan/gray on them. They were subtle, not blatant violations of the all-white policy. it's hard to find solid white tennis shoes that don't look like something for the elderly mall-walkers! Some girls have work the white Nike Shox, and these are white leather with gray 'shox' absorbers in the heel. So, not totally white.
Basically it all depends on how strict your clinical instructor wants to be :)
If you're going to spend $100-125 many would recommend the Dansko clogs (the ones with a closed heel). They hurt at first, but after several days they're supposedly a godsend. I'm trying those next.
