@cnaof9years...... I too would like to know what kind of backround check they do, and what company, and also if they fingerprint?

Okay so I have another question for current or past students what is the Prep you do when you have learning lab? and also what is the access test you have to do towards the end of second quarter?

How much is it to do the LPN day course at Galen? After graduating, did anyone refuse to hire you because of where you went to school?

The program is about $11,000 per year. You won't have a problem getting a job. Through my clinical experience, I have met many Galen graduates and Galen has an excellent reputation in producing competent nurses.

Thanks! I'm thinking about moving to Louisville just to complete it. Are the books 900 per quarter like the website says? I'm trying to make a plan on how much I may need to try to convince my parents to help me out.

    Hello again,
The books can be expensive. If you know where to look, they are tons less. I get mine from for much less! I most recently have been buying books that are one edition earlier and only payed $.75 plus shipping. The only difference in these earlier editions are that the page numbers are different with a very small amount of added info. All pictures and tables are the same. You can still get the original editions from for usually half the price sometimes more but almost always less than half. I hope this helps. There are also other places to check such as Amazon and others just don't buy through the school and you will save!

Hello all....I've been reading through these posts for the past several days. After doing some research I think Galen would be a good place for me to start. I currently have a great job which was going to be difficult for me to give up in order to go to nursing school because my partner and I have 3 kiddos at home, so the evening classes really drew me to Galen. I was hoping it wasn't too late to get into the July evening. What do you all think? From what I've read there are usually openings. I turned in my application, took the Pax PN, got results yesterday, a composite of 150, 99% percentile , they already have my official high school transcript, so now its just a waiting game. How long do you think they will make me wait to find out if I did get in for the July in time? I have knee surgery in a little over 3 weeks and that will put me out for 3 to 4 weeks, so I need to everything together before that happens.

I really don't think you will have any problem at all getting in for nights. The day program is the tough one to get into. Good luck and keep us posted.

I just found out today I got accepted and will be receiving my packet this week! I'm super excited but extremely nervous all in one. I hope I can afford everything that needs to be done and hopefully I get enough FA with student loans to cover most of the tuition. So from what I've seen so far on here for the cheapest stuff: books at, shots at clark or floyd county health department, i have a stethoscope that a friend bought me, scrubs - website and cardinal, what else am I missing? oh ya background check? is that still $200?
