Brown Mackie?

U.S.A. Kansas

Help! I'm so confused. I want to go to nursing school but am older and am running out of time. I see these ads from various 'trade' type schools. Are there any Brown Mackie grads out there that can vouch for the nursing programs they offer?...or does anyone work with someone who actually got a job after the expensive program? What schools should I try in KC area?

OMG Please do not go to brown mackie, they "seem" very nice but they will lie to you to get your money when I was there they never had anyone that graduated and a got a job offer, they've only had two graduating classes. Their not NLN accredited. May not be important to a lot of people but for someone like me who wants to go on and specialize in nursing its very important. Long story short it was in fact a clown school and quit after a month with 3,000 dollars in debt. The instructors passed eveyone with an A, which I think is ridiculous because out of 25 students we are not all going to be A students. The classes just seem too easy as if we were in kindergarden or something. Anyways thats all I have to say about them. Please,Please do not waste your money there

I would like to say that I am a BMC grad 4th grad class, and while some of the core classes were a joke the nursing classes were HELL. We changed nursing directors at our location and hired new teachers. It is accellerated and those teachers are HARD at least the ones I had. The thing is, is that they accept EVERYONE in to pre-nursing and will take your money, but not everyone gets into the actual program.(they forget to tell you that you may not actually get in). However, I graduated with honors and have a great job at a magnet hospital making 24 an hr (that includes my night diff) All the people from my class so far have passed the NCLEX on first try and have jobs........

It may not be the best school and alot of it is self teaching but I worked my a$$ off and hate it when because of some past bad teachers and bad students people look at me like I have a second class education. I passed my boards on the first try,the same boards that KU, UMKC etc students have to pass. One final note, it is the student that makes the nurse I remember on my clinicals at Truman a new grad there that went to Truman U actually asked ME where you give flu shot.....

And by the way - Brown Mackie will quote some great pass rate to you. The problem is, clinicals are "competitive" to get into. Less than half the class ever gets to go to clinicals, and thus take the NCLEX. And that's not even considering the people who drop out because they recognize how terrible the program is - Brown Mackie may say they have a 90% pass rate when that's really reflecting something more in the 30% range.

This is also not true everyone in my class went to clinicals mostly at Truman, there were some issues with clinicals but the new director took care of it. Look Im not saying that you should or shouldnt go here. Im just saying dont bash the people that have.

PLEASE do not even consider Brown Mackie as a choice for your nursing career!!!! I work in a facility were the BM students do clinicals and I am BLOWN AWAY at the lack of education these girls and guys are getting. Most of them can't even bathe a patient. I feel so sorry for them, many of them are excited to start their career and want to learn, but they are paying outrages fees for their education and aren't being taught even the basics.

Really???? Thats quite curious, where do you work? Because again, I am a BMC grad and trust me sweety I know how to bathe a pt along w/many other things. I passed my boards first try. and am working at an area magnet hospital, and my co-workers find me to be quite competent. Try not to judge based on a handful of students.

Let me guess... and I bet you are one of the nurses that doesn't even want to be bothered by students. At least you sound like one of those "kind". You kind of forgot that you were a student at one time. Or did you know everything when you were a student? I doubt it!!

My thoughts exactly, the point is they were students and clinicals are there to learn. It also matters where they are at in the process....Were they LPN students in their very first clinical setting?? That can make a difference. Your first clinical experience is scary and overwhelming, think back to when you were wet behind the ears. We dont all know everything while we're in school, if we did we wouldn't need to be there.

I just signed up there, also. I checked out the other shools, CTU, and NAU. the latter 2 are not KBON accredited as where BMC is. Tryue it is a little pricey but not all that bad. I think I am paying about 195/CH. mY sister is is college up in Chicago working on her PHd and is paying around 1200/CH. Teachers are the to guide, and teach not give you the answers. You have to want this job in order to get it, LIke my Mom said there are no free rides in this world. I had orientation this last week, and I will admit the cross section of people there for the nursing program I would say most of them wont make it. I remember one ? and I quote the person. YO DOG WAH IF I CANT PAY FOR ALL DIS SH*T. Pretty sure she wont make it. IN order to succeede in anyting you have to want it. I remember a few years back I was in the hospital for almost 3 months with a sub dural Hematoma (SP). I almost died, in fact I was declared dead 3 times. Ripped out a improperly put in main line, Given the wrong drugs, etc... Anywhooo. The other schools all slammed BMC, but I looked at the course's and well if I am getting a AAS in nursing why dont I have to take College algebra. The answer NAU gave me was becasue our students find it to difficult. Well NO SH*T welcome to college.

Howdy....first post...woo hoo!

I has orientation last week as well, and am enrolled in the nursing program.

Are you in PD this month? Kind of wondering if were in class together.

Hey Exmil77, I am not sure if you are or not. I go to class during the day. But next month I will be switching to the night course do to a work conflict. Tell me your name and I will see if you are or not. If not I will be next month. Wanna be my study buddy :-)

Im in the night program, so I guess I will see you next month.

I wish I knew about this before I wasted over a year of my life and loans that piled up. I attended BMC in Salina, KS and hate that campus. Their "teachers" come straight from the streets and barely have teaching backgrounds. It was a waste and HATE that I signed up with them so quickly. They wanted $2,208 before releasing my school records/transcripts....saying they sent my loan money back to Sallie Mae. Therefore they screwed me....I could've applied a community college here in NC but didn't have THAT transcript!
