hello peeps! just wanna clear some things up..

as an immigrant employment based nurse, what happens if you fail the NCLEX on your first take?

a. you get the chance to retake it?

b. if you fail again, are you still given that chance to re-retake? up to how many failures is one allowed before he/she takes a refresher course (if such is possible)?

c. will your hospital/employer fire you for failing on your first try?

i heard that in a particular state, you have to pass the NCLEX during the first try because if you fail, you get to take a refresher course...

inputs are badly needed please...

thanks and have a great day!!!!

Which state u r going to take NCLEX? I know some states u can take retake by paying small amount fee. I think, most states u can re take without any trouble. Check with ur SBN websites.

Here is another rumor laid to rest. There is not one state that requires you to take a refresher course if you miss the exam on the first try.

What the employer dones, is up to them, but that is not the way that the BON does things.

You do not pay a small fee to retake the exam, you need to submit an application AGAIN to the BON with the fees for licensure, just like you did for the first time. And pay for the $200 NCLEX fee again.

This is one of the key reasons that I always say that the nurse should complete the exam at home before coming to the US to make sure that it is done and out of the way. Some agencies will only pay you about $7 per hour to work as a CNA until you pass, and then it can take months before they put you into an RN position. This is something that you want to prevent.

hi suzanne,

thanks for your reply. we are now in the final stages of the immigration process and cannot anymore back track. had i known of this site way way before, i would have heeded your advise -- sp on agencies...i really cannot do anything about our situation but to make the best out of it. and really study hard for the NCLEX....

again, thank you for your support.
