Learning objectives

  1. Can anyone suggest a few learning objectives that I can use while in placement. I will be working in a post op surgical ward and do not fully understand about learning objectives. Any suggestions will certainly be appreciated

You could base some on skill aquisition, or post-operative pain management, or wound healing. I used to pick a few each week, then give details of how I expected to meet the outcomes, and what resources I would use. Even such things as learning the emergency procedures for a new ward.
Eg: Learn the effective use of the 0-10 pain scale for assessing post-operative pain management. How: by using text book, pain management nurse, internet to learn more about the scale (ie who made it), course readings, etc. Then have an assessment column to show how you met the outcomes, usually signed off by a preceptor.
Hope that helps a little. Ali :-)
