British Nurse wanting to move to Toronto

World International

Published

Dear all,

I am a qualified nurse currently working in the Uk, i want to move to Toronto to work there from August 2006. I was wondering if anyone knew of any agencies that help international nurses migrate to Ontario. I have seen some agencies that help nurse from the UK to Vancuver and BC, but none for Ontario. I would be very grateful for you any of you guys know of any agencies in Ontario who are willing to help with the migration process or any other way that i can come and work there even without the help of the agencies. I have sent my application for registration with the Ontario College of Nurses and i am awaiting a desicion. What else do i need to do?

Hi neighbour!

If the Ontario College of Nurses is their nursing board, you seem to be on the right track already. If you do not get any response soon, be persistent, e-mail, snail mail and later call.

There should be someone there willing and able to help you out with the requirements and how to go about and find a job. May be they have a list of openings, where the need for nurses in your field is,nursing agencies. It does not cost you anything to ask. Put them on the spot... "What would you do if you were me?" Hopefully, they won't say: I would stay home!!!:o

No, but seriously,I would Google to get a list of Toront's hospitals/address, e-mail, phone # and certainely the suburbs-cities near Toronto$$$$

(I personnaly think that you should start there: Scarborough, Hamilton, Ste-Catherines.... check a map). Write/e-mail to their Human Ressources office, to the director of nursing, the unit's nurse manager (they pass the last interview, usually). Explain your eager, your dynamism, sell yourself, attach you CV. Do it with a BANG!

Do you realize that Vancouver is totally awesome? This could very well be better than Toronto! And, if need be, you could start there than move on.

Ironically, I am considering going back to Quebec, where I never practice nursing. Besides, I did my nursing in English and I would have to practice in French, pass their French exam.... The health system is way different there than is the USA. Probably, I would admit, less progressive and independant, but I am sure still very compassionate

The best thing for you and me would be to network with a nurse overthere, and ask her/he to guide us, and possibly letting us shadowing (spend a 1/2 day at work with her/he for ex). Anyone interested????

If you could come overseas, let say for a vacation and do you job search personnally, you could get a feel.

I have been travelling virtually lately, where are you from? I visited Bath and St-Ives, haaaaaaaa! One day!

Good luck! I will be thinking about you!

As of UK2BCnurse, please could you share your box-info with us, it would save us some lines. Thank you for you generosity and time.
