Compliance Monitoring in Infection Control

What kinds of methods do you use for monitoring compliance in infection control? All of our new employees have initial training/bloodborne pathogen training, but what else? Should I be doing random handwashing audits? I work in behavioral health and am trying to become JCAHO compliant.

Do you have an Infection Control Committee? We do hand washing/hand hygiene audits quarterly. Also, my housekeeping manager is tracking the amount of alcohol hand rub used on our units and we compare it to national numbers per patient day.

We do the BBP on hire and then annually after that. I have instituted many new Policies and Procedures this year and I present the less complicated ones at staff meetings, the more in depth(like our new Resp Infection Protection Plan) changes I do 1/2 hour mandatory inservices.
