How Competitive is Ivy Tech Sellersburg, really?

U.S.A. Indiana

I'm looking to become a CNA in the next couple of months and I'm currently attending Ivy Tech in Sellersburg. I hear the nursing program is extremely competitive. How competitive is this exactly? If for some reason I am unable to enter into the nursing program, do I have other options? Will IUS work with me if Ivy Tech won't? I get mostly A's and B's. Mostly A's, but I'm kind of getting nervous. I have one C from U of L on my college transcript, but it was in theater (New boyfriend--skipped lots of classes. Bad idea, I know). Is it really that important? I know I'm intelligent enough to be a nurse and I know I can do it, but will Ivy Tech dismiss me for a few B's? Or even one C? I'm worried about entering into the program. I am still working on my general education. What will raise my chances of getting into the program? Please help. I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time or I'm setting myself up for a big disappointment. :bluecry1:

Thanks,

Alicia

Have you attended an info session for the campus you would like to apply to? At the info session you will learn all about application requirements (and it is required to attend an info session for all the campuses you want to apply to). For Ivy Tech, they go by a point system and you have to have taken 4 pre-reqs: A&P 1, A&P 2, English comp, and Psych. You also have to take the TEAS test. They add up points from the four pre-req's (A=30 pts, B=20 pts, C=10 pts) and your overall TEAS score, then you can also get 3 pts for applying to the campus in the region you live. The C on your transcript will have no bearing on nursing school acceptance. Nor will any other grades from any other classes--except for the 4 pre-req's. Find out when the next info session is for Sellersburg or any other campus you are considering and go to it.

That's really odd that my other classes don't count! I have taken Psychology at UofL with an A, and I'm currently enrolled in my 2nd English class. First Class A- and not sure what my grade is right now in English. I should talk to my teacher for extra credit. I haven't attended the info session, I'll ask about that tomorrow! Thank you very much for your reply!

Was your first English class a typical Freshman Comp type class? If so that will count (as long as it was within the last 10 yrs, unless you have a degree then it counts no matter what) and the A- will count as an A for Ivy Tech purposes. Sounds like all you need is the A&P 1 & 2.

I took English 101 at UofL and I'm currently taking English Composition and Persuasion.
