Anatomy and Physiology together? IUPUI

U.S.A. Indiana

Would I be insane to take anatomy and physiology (at IUPUI) at the same time. I am currently admitted there as a non-degree seeking student to get my nursing prereqs. I'm interested in Ivy Tech as well and think I've figured out after my last post that anatomy and physiology is all that I'm lacking so I would love to take them in the same semester rather than waiting a whole other semester.

Well, you might be a bit crazy taking both at the same time, but if you are not working or taking other classes, I think it could be doable with a lot of hard work. I took anatomy-fall 07 and pysio -spring 08 at IUPUI and just got accepted to the fall 08 ASN program at Ivy Tech. Both are 5 credit claases each. I found anatomy much easier than pysio, but both required a large amount of time studying outside of lecture and lab. The cost is much higher at IUPUI, I paid $3000 in tuition just to take the 2 classes, not including books. Where as Ivy Tech is about $350 for each class. One perk of taking them at IUPUI is that when the credits transfer to Ivy Tech, it fills the requirement for ANP 101, ANP 102 and ANP 201. Just remember that you must get A's in both of these classes to be competitive for the Indy Ivy Tech program. Hope this helps....good luck to you!

I think taking both together would be difficult. I took both at IUPUI and they both require a tremendous amount of study time. Anatomy provided the basics on which the physio. was built on, so if you do not already have a great understanding of anatomy, it may jeopardize your grade. But, if you have the time and motivation- go for it. Go to the recitation/study groups as well!

As already posted these two classes transfer to cover 3 classes needed for your Ivy Tech nursing degree. You really MUST get an A in the Anatomy (since it counts towards their ANP101 & 102, which determine your acceptance) to be competitive for the RN program. (I am now an RN student in the Ivy Tech program :specs:) If you think it may be too risky, you could take one each semester along with the Ivy Tech nursing co-requisite classes, so that you are not wasting time, but working towards the degree.

That link contains those classes.

Good luck in your decision!

No, your not crazy.

I took both 5 hour credits at IUPUI and on the weekends too through the Fall. It was hell doing all day saturday for anatomy and all day sunday for physiology but I did it. And got A's in both. So certainly feasible. I didn't buy the current edition books either, so save your money there. All you really need for both classes is SOME anatomy or physiology book thats relatively current and then just pay attention to class and the notes.

Good luck

Also forgot to mention that I was working full time 40 hours during the regular work week m-Friday and wasn't feeling like I was killing myself and also taking online class at IVY tech. do it if you feel like you can!
