Hi there,

I wanted to get some information about working as an RN in the ER at Northwest Community. I will probably be moving to the area in the summer and was thinking about applying there. How big is the ER? What's the staffing like? How are the doctors, meaning how is the relationship between the doctors and nurses? Do they use a lot of agency there? What kind of different shifts do they have? I will be a new grad with about 1 year experience in the ER by that time, any idea what the pay would be like?

I don't know anything specific to the ER, but have heard that Northwest Community is a good place to work overall in terms of staffing and treatment of nurses.

Northwest has a very busy ER, 19 beds in the "main ER" (more critical patients) 14 in "fast track" 7 in Pediatrics, and then a 3 bed quick unit. They don't have alot of agency nurses. They are in the process of building a new ER which will have about 70 beds. The halls are often filled with wall beds also. The benefits at Northwest are outstanding, and they are very supportive of their nurses. However, they absolutely will not hire a new grad into the ER, not sure about 1 year experience, they may want more. Also I'd be sure to have ACLS certification before even applying. I know they start new grads at 25 an hour for day shift, and up from there in relation to experience.

I currently work in the Northwest Community ER and LOVE IT! They treat their employees great but don't plan on getting hired with less than 2 years experience as an RN in the ER. They will not take new grad residents in the main ER (though they will in the Peds ED). Almost everyone is genuinely happy to be there.
