JJC 2013 Spring Nursing Applicants ?

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello - this is my very first time posting a new topic, hopefully I'm doing this correctly.

Just wanted to see if there are any ladies/gentlemen out there applying into the nursing program for the Spring 2013 semester. We apply the first two weeks of August - and then does anyone know how long until we take the TEAS test? I keep getting told different things, it's confusing.

Speaking of.....Hopefully I'm accepted and can then maybe make some friends. I'm so sick and tired of the people who tell you one thing that's untrue, all to mess with your head and make you second guess anything you've ever known about this nursing program. I know this is a competitive field and all, but sheesh already, the lies and manipulation have been unreal!

Also, I have to say, I admire anyone who has (especially while working FT w/a family) gone to school to take these pre-reqs while not even knowing if you will get in. The stress I have experienced, the stress and torture I have put my family through while leaving 3-4 nights a week after work, to go to school, while not even knowing if I'll be accepted, has been beyond brutal. I wish we could write an essay on all that we've sacrificed in hopes that would make some of the admissions counselors feel guilty enough to just put an approved stamp on our applications :)

Good luck to you all!

YES, YOU WILL GET AN EMAIL EITHER WAY---SAYING YOU ARE ACCEPTED OR SAYING "DUE TO THE LARGE AMOUNT OF QUALIFIED APPLICANTS YOU WERE NOT ACCEPTED :nailbiting: i WAS HOPING TODAY WAS THE DAY, BUT NOTHING YET....

LOL, TRYING TO BE PATIENT TOO.... BUT IT SO ISN'T WORKING OUT THAT WAY

So I hear it will be this Friday or beginning of next week but we should def know by Tuesday. Fingers crossed. Don't forget to register for classes between now and then if you are able because if u plan on going to another school for associate or bachlors they usually want more classes to be taken. So either way we can keep pushing forward. Good luck everyone.

How do you get all this great info? LOL! Thanks for sharing!

I'm actually not worried about it anymore. I had a life event happen in the last couple weeks that really put things into perspective. So either way, I'll accept what it is with grace. Okay.......so I will be a bit let down if I don't get in, but, not laying in bed crying all day depressed like I may have been three weeks ago. I know I'll be an excellent nurse, and I will get there one way or another.

OMG--I really hope to know by next Monday. I keep stalking my email hoping for something...just so I know if I am in or not. This whole process has had me on edge! I definitely have it planned to register too...if I do not get in I will take my only pre-req class left which is Microbiology and then I don't know what else to take with it, but I definitely want to take two classes. I will take a class towards my BSN!

Can't wait to hear who got in!!!!!

Sorry to hear. I hope everything is ok! I agree...I am super excited and on edge to find out, but more of "the answer." I just want to know if I am in or not. I will definitely be a nurse and whenever my time is, for acceptance, will be my time. I will be bummed if I don't get in this round, but I refuse to beat myself up over it. I studied my butt off, took all the practice tests and even had days where I did not do things with my husband and kids in order for me to prepare the best I could. I have a family to take care of; I will keep my head up and keep moving forward.

I talked to Luna because I also have been stalking my email and I just want to know. I will be overjoyed to get in but it won't be the end of the world for me because I am excited about the classes I picked for next semester. Either way I figure it will work out. The hardest part about not getting in will be taking that teas test again, it stressed me out being full-time and studying for the teas. I did go to St Francis and they said I must take Statistics, Soc 101 and a computers class in order to get in their program. So even when i finish JJC Nursing program those classes have to be complete in order to get BSN so heck I figure either way I am not losing time and if i don't get in JJC the second time I will be ready for the St Francis program.

So how is everyone doing today? We are one day closer to knowing what our future holds for us.

Has anyone else completed ALL of the pre-req classes, like micro, speech, soc, all of these yet? By the end of this semseter, I will have finished them all. I keep wondering, what should I do if I don't make it in. If this is your situation too, have you contemplated taking the CNA class to get your foot in the door or would it just be a waste? Just curious - I feel a little confused, probably more emotionally than anything.

I'm curious what the difference is between the CNA classes, and Nurs. 140?

If I weren't to get in, I will take one of those and Statistics next semester.

One day closer and still a nervous wreck over here lol! For me, I have all classes completed except Micro. I am in speech now and halfway done. If I do not get in, I will take Micro and probably a course that will go towards my BSN. I am already a CNA so I wouldn't take the CNA course. From reading the description, NURS 140 is basically a class regarding CNA skills (vitals, patient care, standard precautions/isolation, safety, etc). I know JJC doesn't require it in order to get in, but I learned many do like MVCC. One advantage is "getting your feet wet" in the nursing profession. I heard some took the CNA class and then realized they didn't want to do that. I have a friend that said she didn't realize as I nurse she may have to clean a patient that used a bedpan, or on the other hand, didn't make it to a bedpan or commode etc. It turned her off in pursuing an ADN.

Fingers crossed for all of us that we all receive great news tomorrow and are able to celebrate this weekend with our family and friends for our achievement.

Yes, fingers crossed for everyone here too! I SO DO NOT WANT TO WAIT THIS WHOLE WEEKEND TO FIND OUT...! GSTAR, YES, TOTALLY IF I WERE YOU AND YOU DONT MAKE IT, TAKE CNA...

I HAVE ALL CLASSES COMPLETED... GOOD LUCK EVERYONE, HOPE TOMORROW IS THE DAY :)

Hi y'all.

I'm a 3rd semester student and let me tell you all.. turn back and run now! Run to the nearest university or other college, anywhere except JJC. This school is skewed in so many ways, and makes us students slaves to their beckon call. They are not there for support, as friendly and warm welcoming as they may seem to you all now- be warned they are not helpful in way and will not help you in your success as a nurse. I do not find it odd that supposably only 100 people applied. After this past year and how students have been screwed and failed- no one wants to promote or even vouche for the school. Having a medical history, background, job helps TONS and is more than likely where you'll learn a lot from. As far as having your CNA v. 140- it is an advantage because you'll basically be taking a 6 week CNA class while taking your nursing 150 class. It's up to you if you rather increase or decrease your workload, and since they have the new 80% rule- I'd opt for as little workload as possible. Keep in mind, I am not a bitter student or one that has always had this view but once you're in the program I hope you all understand. Be prepared to be in meds, more than most of our class is on anxiety and attention controling meds. I feel terrible for the the wrong and betrayed image this school imposes on people. It is not all rainbows and butterflies like they say.. so hopefully you'll take this with a grain of salt and really beware the ides of JJC! If you have questions or concerns I'm more than welcome to help!! good luck to you all!!

I think it was stated that there were 100 less, not 100 total. In asking the difference between 140 and the CNA course, I meant the courses themselves. Like, for 140, do you have to take all the CNA clinical time in addition to the nursing clinical time? And could you feasibly sit for the CNA after 140? And by 80%.........what does that mean? You didn't read our posts well, you have spelling errors, lack of commas, and your ability to communicate your thoughts isn't great. I'd assume that maybe you're a poor student? And that could be why you are upset? Where are all the other upset students? Why aren't they posting? I will take what you have to say with a grain of salt. (I know what your intent was in using that phrase, but you used it improperly.) I think jumping on here and causing a great amount of anxiety for people who are already on the edge, and stealing our joy and anticipation is rotten. I have a friend who completed this program two years ago. She said it was difficult, but doable. She has never told me to attend another school. I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time, and I hope things improve for you. But excuse us if we view your post critically. Now, if five students were on here giving us specifics, that might be something else. But with a 95% pass rate on the NCLEX..........I find it hard to believe that JJC leaves you unprepared for nursing.

If you'd like to fill us in on specifics on why the program is so terrible, that would be more helpful. Also, if you could gather more individuals to share their thoughts, that would be helpful too. But it would be silly of us to "run to another program" based on one individuals assessment.
