Hello - this is my very first time posting a new topic, hopefully I'm doing this correctly. Just wanted to see if there are any ladies/gentlemen out there applying into the nursing program for the Spring 2013 semester. We... Read More

Thank you to all the people trying to gather schedule info. I'm going to just wait until registration before I worry about childcare. I'm sure things will fall into place. Being a nurse is always going to be a crazy schedule anyway. We'll work weird hours, holidays, be called in, etc........may as well start getting used to it now, right? LOL! Gstar, we'll be okay. We'll figure it out. The unknown is anxiety inducing. Especially if you don't have spousal or family support. *hugs* Please PM me if you want to talk or vent.

Hopefull2011 ~ I hope you'll keep posting tips. They are helpful. I think our group coming in has been hit with so much negativity we are just drained. I even had a teacher tell me not to even bother with an associates as I won't be employable anywhere but a doctor's office. And she works for JJC. I was all WTFudge?? I think we're all drained and Gstar misunderstood your intention. And I agree, the secretaries really don't know and are most likely exhausted from all the calls. Whenever I really want to know something I email Luna. And only if it's an extremely important issue.

We all have to remember a lot gets lost in translation with the type written word. You both seem like super awesome ladies and I'm very confident if this conversation were in person it would have happened so differently.

Okay, so hopefully you ladies won't be upset with me for being so presumptuous in my assessment. *hides behind couch*

Thank you for that tip. I haven't taken Nurs 100 or CNA.

Thank you for that information. Getting off at 3 pm definitely helps with being at school to pick up kids.

Yes, very anxious and happy and scared all at once!

And what did I do that "sucks"????? I told you that you won't be done with clinical by noon and suggested you be very flexible?? Are you kidding me?? You actually took offense to that? I was only trying to give advice to everyone from someone who has been there, but I guess the best way to learn is to experience it. And you are right....I will be an RN in about two months. I don't have time to be giving advice to people that don't appreciate it. I have an exam to study for (for which I was about to give some tips and advice, but never mind.....).
Hopefull2011 - Good luck on you exams! Thank you for taking time to enlighten us with all the important information and painting a realistic picture versus a pretty one.

Thank you, zamrn and PurplePRN...sounds like you both have the necessary qualities to get through this program with flying colors and become excellent RNs - you are both realistic, flexible, objective, and compassionate. You sound like you have a handle on your emotions, will have no problems accepting objective criticism from your clinical instructors (which you will get plenty of), don't take things too personally, and have great critical thinking skills. Most IMPORTANTLY....you have a realistic view of how the next 2 years will go, and you aren't paranoid basket cases If you ever have specific questions, please don't hesitate to PM me, but I won't be visiting the JJC threads any longer. Wishing all of you well!

We need to motivate one another -- most of us are moms and this is our chance to have a stable career. Thank you so much for your positive post and rational thoughts.

You really hit this spot on. Ever since I have attended JJC, all I have ever heard is NEGATIVE NEGATIVE NEGATIVE. If I listened to a quarter of it, I would have never even pursued this goal. This is part of the reason why I even started this thread to begin with, because I'm sick of hearing it and came on here to vent and to see if anyone else was in the same boat as me.

It's obvious that nursing will not be all fairytales and roses - I'm just anxious to know what to expect as I'm sure we all are. Having to wait until Mid-November is a killer on my nerves and then getting told wrong information over and over again by E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E is just ridiculous. I don't believe anyone anymore, I've lost faith in people being able to either tell the truth or at least give valid information.

Thank you PurplePRN for coming on and well, kind of being mediator. You are able to see this from both sides which well, I'm just not capable of doing at the moment because I AM drained and exhausted from all this worrying and stressing the hell out.

I got your PM Gstar! Thank you!

There is a saying that "Nurses eat their young." So this is NOT going to be the end of it. LOL! Who wants ice cream?
