Help a Recent ASN Grad Out

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

I am in desperate need of help. I just graduated with my ASN and got my license, but so many employers in the Chicago area are just hating on my ASN. I have so many doors closed on me due to my degree not being a BSN, I feel like I am going to lose my mind (including my two current employers). I know the economy sucks, and I know that there is not really a nursing shortage around here, but I was hoping that if anyone knows of or works at a hospital that they know will hire ASN new grads, they could list it here so I can call and apply. As long as it's in Chicago/Suburbs even Northern Indiana, I don't care. I will drive, I will do anything to get a chance to be a bedside nurse. Please help!

What do you mean exactly by they're hating on your ASN degree? I know that a BSN is preferred some places, but are they flat out saying you need your BSN to get a job?

I'm finding a lot of hospitals have new grad programs that require a BSN to be considered for. Other postings require a BSN just for the job (especially for the hospitals that have or are trying to get Magnet status). I always apply anyway...but I see so many places in the Chicagoland area moving toward BSN (at least by their job description) that I'm beginning to become disenheartend. But I some places must still hire new grad ASNs, right?

Really??? Thats crazy. Go to Advocatehealth.com, They have hospitals in the burbs and the city, they have a new grad program where you can go into any department! You choose your top three, and you get into one of those choices. They love new grads and have a job fair coming up! Also, Northwestern Memorial downtown hires new grads, and Shermann Hospital in Elgin. They all hire ADN nurses. Some hospitals might want you to work towards your BSN, but most dont. OOOh and Rush-copley in Aurora, they hires new ADN'S too.

Hi new here. I know Sinai hires ADN nurses and also the Resurrection system, although not sure how they are on hiring new grads. Good luck with your search.
