ECC Elgin Community College requirements

I'm the original poster of this thread and can answer some of you questions. At ECC they highly recommend that you finish all of your prereqs and coreqs BEFORE you apply. (A&P is the only one that is actually required to be fully completed before you even apply). There is a "worksheet" you can get from ECC's website under the Nursing program section that can help you figure out how many points you have from your previous degree. I applied with a total of 44 points and just got accepted. They say most people who get accepted have between 42 and 46 points from that worksheet. The points you get are calculated from all your prereqs/coreqs and what grade you received (A is 4 points, B is 3 points and so on). You also get a point each from having English I and II, etc. completed. Then there is a scale for how many points you get for PSB scores. So there's different ways you can accumulate your points for the worksheet.

Like you, I also came in with a Bachelor's but I was required to retake almost all my sciences because it had been longer than 10 years since I took them. If that's the case you will most certainly need to retake BIO 110, Chem 112 (or equivalent), Microbiology, and A&P (1 or 2 part A&P is available but the 1 part A&P doesn't transfer later on to a Bachelor's in Nursing, although it's a quicker course and doesn't take 2 semester like the 2 part.)

My biggest advice to you, would be to get a "credit evaluation" through Student records. Basically you just send in all your transcripts and fill out a little sheet with your info and request them to look at your credits for what would be accepted for the Nursing program. They will come back and tell you exactly what classes you would have left to take (and which ones will transfer). Then take the grades of what classes transferred and plug them into the worksheet that you can download online. If you're close to the 42-46 point range, you'll be good to go.
