U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi all, I am new to allnurses. I just found out that I will be accepted into the DePaul masters entry program in 2010 and I was wondering if anyone else out there got the same great news! :yeah: My question is if anyone else in the 2010 cohort or other cohorts that would like to get together and rent a house in the area! I think it could really benefit all of us if we lived together! I am a 23 year old female who is a serious student but a fun person! If anyone is interested please respond or request me as a friend on facebook! My name is Valencia Anderson and I'm in the Eastern Illinois University network. I look forward to hearing all the good news from the others out there and making new friends at DePaul!!! YAY we're gonna be NURSES!!!! :redbeathe:nurse::redbeathe

All my best,

Valencia

Thank you. I will contact American Heart Associations regarding CPR certification. Can you tell me about student loan? I am on student visa so I am not eligible to FAFSA. I have to take private loans.

Sorry, can't help you with that. However, if orientation this year is like last year, they should have a representative from Financial Aid at orientation who will give general info. You should be able to corner him/her and, through them, get put in contact with someone who can help. It's in their interest to help you to pay the school money and all...

Hey all. I am starting in the January cohort and am feeling very unprepared---even after orientation. Did you know that the books for 1st quarter are almost $600, used!!! I just signed a lease for a one-bedroom and am moving in just before Christmas. I am excited, but NERVOUS!

hey sbaker. I registered class for 2010 cohort but i didnt see about books. $600 is too much???. Donot be nervous. I live in Naperville. I will commute to chicago by metra and cta. Did you get your ID?

The books are expensive (because they release new editions when there are too many copies of the current edition out on the used book market as evidence-based practice models are established and updated) but you'll reuse a number of the books you'll buy for first and second quarter for future classes.

As for the price of everything else - there's definitely some sticker shock involved, especially if you're moving into the Chicago housing market for the first time. However, it's all budgeted for in your estimated cost of attendance. As long as you manage your resources halfway-decently, you can do ok with living expenses without having to resort to eating ramen five days a week and setting your thermostat at 55°F :-P.

hey Squire.

I have one question regarding text books. Do we need to buy all books which are given on Orientation? or can you give me list of required textbooks for winter 2010?

Thank you

The pharm book and the theory book not everyone needs to have, you just need to have someone you can borrow them from on occasion. The rest you should probably have your own copy of.

Hey I have some questions. I found out that there are 5 books for Nursing 301. and 2 books for Nursing 322 and 3 books for Nursing 332. Can you tell me that do we need to buy all of these books? I am going to buy from Amazon.

Thanks

For pharm, you can do without the calculations book unless Margaret changed how she teaches the class (which she might've). Otherwise, see my previous post.

Thank you. I will order all books of nursing 332 and 301. I will order Pharmc after starting class. Do you have idea about physical check up and vaccination? I ordered from certifiedbackground check.com for 87 dollar. Can you tell me what should I have to do next? thanks

The physical, vaccinations, and titers you'll have to schedule with your Primary Care Provider. Beyond that, take care of stuff on the list they handed out at orientation - it all needs to get done.

I agree with Squire... you don't need the pharm book unless something has changed... but where you will pay an arm and a leg is PRINTING... she gives you almost 500 pages of notes - and you need these - this is what the tests are based off of... some of the folks in our group sent the files to an online place and got it bound for about $30... I need to think about what that site was called.....
