Hello all, I am new here to this site and very excited to have joined. I have been in Home Health for 3 years now. It has always been in our contract to take on call for after hours (5p to 8a), but have not had to do it as people have been volunteering for the extra pay. My question is what is being paid for on call and visits being made? Thanks so much for your answers!

Hi Andrea. I think on call requirements as well as pay vary from agency to agency. I work for VNA and we take on call only about every 5th- 6th weekend. We(RNs) are salary so during the hours we are on call, we get $2/hr plus $45 -$65 a visit as well as the travel time and mileage to/from any visits. We only are on call from 4:30p - 8a Sat and Sun nights. It's not too bad - I only average 1-2 visits a weekend as well as a few "triage" calls. Beats working every 2-3 weekends. Hope that helps.

I'm glad I've always been in positions where I'm not formally on call. However, I've been called to go to cases when somebody calls off and that is ok as long as I'm up to it. No incentives though.
