Illinois rules & regs re LPN's & verbal/phone orders

Hello. I am an LPN who's been working in home care for a number of years now. I put this question out in the "LPN Corner" here, but I'm hoping an Illinois RN in Illinois may have the answer I'm looking for, & know where I can look to verify it.

My current employer does not allow LPN's to take phone orders at all & states that the Medicare surveyor directly informed them that an LPN taking a phone order is considered as the LPN altering the 485.

I've heard this from a former employer as well.

I recently accepted an additional position at another company covering an area closer to my home that expects LPN's to take phone orders & get them co signed by the RN case manager.

I've contacted the Illinois state board & Illinois association of nurses numerous times over the past couple of years about this. I've never recieved a response.

A lovely RN responded to my question in the "LPN Corner" with EXACTLY what I was looking for..a direct link to a site that spells out the rules & regs on this..but it's for PA, not Illinois.

Anyone who can give me any feedback on Illinois rules & regs out there?

I would continue to contact the Board about this. They should not be ignoring your inquiries.

Thanks. I wonder why I haven't thought of it before..I should ask an RN friend to contact for me.
